you may not like em but do you really wanna pay for a new hood and windshield when your latch breaks?

Why is that..what makes not having hood pins so bad..like I know the hood can fly up but why?

i believe its because sooner or later the latch will give way but dont take my word on it. i have seen the aftermath enough times to make me want get hood pins.

lose the body kit imo. then go with rims and a drop. i also firmly believe in hoodpins...a definite must! other than that..nice ride :thumbsup

youll like them when they save your hood from flying up and hiting your windshield and roof at 70mph...causing massive damage and a potential wreck. i believe that hood pins should automatically come with the CF hoods. they arent really an option...they are pretty required for your saftey.

bucknutty will talk some sense into you...he's lost a hood, windshield and roof due to no hood pins
76193, RE: opinions on my car... what next?
Posted by a_miller_76, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Hood pins are a decoration they are keeping your hood down.

CF hoods fly up because they are really light and they tend to vibrate more than stockers. That overtime loosens the latch adhession. Next thing you know the latch breaks loose and your hood smashes into your windshield and you're on here writing "God damnit I wish I'd gotten hood pins. You guys were right...bla bl bla"

In other words, get hood pins.

And put on wheels and drop it slightly. And "low profile" tires are for choads. Get a thick enough tire that you don't look like an idiot with a rubber band around your wheels and it saves your wheels from getting road rash the first day you drive them over a bump or pothole.
76201, RE: opinions on my car... what next?
Posted by Aggression, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Yes def hood pins. I have also witnessed the aftermath and the cost isn't something you want to deal with for the repair.

Second on the list I would drop it and then get rims after you dropped it. I would say prokits (recommend getting Tokico Illumina's if you drop it) with a 18" rim and 40 series tire package. I agree that gunmetal with a polished lip would look sweet on your car.

Car is looking good bro.
76204, RE: opinions on my car... what next?
Posted by Talontaxi, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Hood pins as previously stated would deffintaly be a good idea. Second you should deffintaly lower it and some nice wheels. Third, lose the body kit. Everyone and their brother has a blitz body kit. Its way overdone IMO. Just my 2 cents

What!?! You guys are retarded. After my fuel rail breaking off incident, I wont go anywhere without a fire extuingisher. I have one in the cabin and one in the trunk too. When i drive by you and your car is on fire you will be glad I have them!

lol yea but how many people on this board have had their car just catch on fire? i doubt it happens that often. if you do feel the need to get an extinguisher tho, at least put it under the seat or someplace less obvious.

Yeah fire ext. needs to go. just rims with a deep lip. send me an im and ill get you some info on some nice ones for cheap, look amazing. Those with a set of aem rotors. i have an eibach suspension lowered the slightest bit, front upper rear lower braces, the car feels like its on rails. good work so far, keep it clean. You will be amazed at the difference rims make.

its at quick access, i've had to help one of my friends out before... racing a beater car.. battery caught fire... saved him from alot worse damage..

maybe i'll mount it somewhere else.. i have to deal alot with people going is that NOS?!?!?! i just smile and walk off..

i'm debating 18" or 19"... i think 19"s with 1 1/2"-2" drop.. there are some pretty crappy roads around here.

i check my hood all the time, i just can't stand of putting hoodpins on the car.. it runs the overall look IMO. it latches GREAT! i've been as fast as 140mph with that hood (i know call me stupid... i was i'll admit it, kinda got in a rush, wasnt thinking, but it worked)

i'll be the first... you think i'm just stupid or something?? over half of the CF hoods out there, THAT ARE BUILT CORRECTLY (latches) will not fly up. the reason for everyone's flying up is not just because they are light. most aftermarket hoods are not the companies worries if they dont fit right. and alot i have installed are just like every other. if the HOOD LATCHES RIGHT, LOCKS DOWN... it will not come up. period. i've had friends with carbon hoods for years now.... and nothing. and if it does happen to me, i wont whine.. when have i? hood pins ruin the look of a CF hood IMO.

speaking on the gap. i've tried everything... when i put the bumper back on after working on the car.... it fits a little better. i think the screw closest to the headlight was a little loose. anyways.. its urethane... what can you do.

Well since most of them were VIS hoods then I'd like to know where you're gonna magically get one better.

It's hilarious when you know it alls tell all the other members of the board they're stupid and you're gonna do what you want. Then the shit they tried to warn you of happens. I bet you never even tell us cus you'll be too damned embarrassed to say anything.

I'll give Spilner a ring and tell him you're game to race for slips. Look, like your car based on your taste and how much work you put into it. Stop giving a fuck what a bunch of e-buddies think. Dude... that's amazing. Your front bumper is made entirely out of molded long grain rice! There's even a strainer so you can harvest up more rice by driving through the paddy! That's really neat!

Seriously, though, if that is a CF hood, and I can't tell for sure from the pictures, get hood pins. It would suck to need to replace a windsheild, a hood, and have bodywork done on the roof because you didn't take the half hour to install a 15 dollar part. And that's assuming that you don't wipe the car into any other solid objects right after the hood decided to stand up and salute.

Posted by Ducking_Fumbass, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Other then the Blitz, the car looks nice. I like stock bodied cars better, myself, with all of the art under the hood, but if you want to make your "ride" more "tight," go with some huge wheels. The Matchbox look is in. If you do get huge wheels, though, do yourself a favour and upgrade the brakes. Nothing worse then having gigantic "rimz" that show off your micro-brakes.

not to say hood pins aren't a good idea but.... I've had a carbon fiber hood for almost 2 years using just the latch with no problem. I've even let just the saftey holding it and its been fine. I also drove 140 mph with it on there... no probs.

i was just wondering, aren't you the one that is/was selling the turbo kit? i thought you need money bad, so that's why you're selling the kit.

so, in other words, you want to go from a turbo kit, to rims or a drop??? you should of sold the blitz kit instead of the turbo kit!

for reals, man.

but, it's your car i guess.

the reason you need hoodpins is because the skelaton of the hood (which the latch is attached to) is GLUED (yes, with glue) to the top carbon fiber section. this glue overtime can seperate, thus top part of hood destroys your car while the skelaton stays latched on. stupidass, save your 500$ investment and get hoodpins.

the smartness imo :) This is what i was gonna say basically, the latch can fit tight and the glue can give out or something. So i will be the 800th person to say get hood pins. If you don't care if you car gets wrecked than fine, but when the hood flies off and hits someone else's car or something than you will regret it imo. i will also agree go for some new rims/tires. :)
