I read the post on dsm talk about getting rid of the window rattle, and they had mentioned filling the backs of our interior panels with the expanding foam.

The write up on this wasn't very detailed so I was woundering if anyone has tried this, and if so could you tell me how it worked out for you and how you did it.

I am trying to get rid of as much rattling and wind noise as possible. I have urathane motor mounts in and the vibration is pretty bad. I have already coated the interior of the car and the backs of all the panels with liquid sound deadener and plan on using the sheets to do the rest of the interior. Depending on what I find out about the foam, I may also do that as well. Any tips on sound deadening the interior would be appreciated.

I suggest not to use expanding foam at all. Generally if your not really carefull with the stuff the foam can be put in too think and expands to much filling in the void. You'll end up with a very visable bubble on the outside.

I have 200lbs of sound deadener in my car, i've filled all the voids with foam, i've vinyl wrapped some of my plastic........guess what, it's still loud as fuck.


Only way you can do it is get the lead impregnated foam matting that's 1/2 inch thick and weighs a ton. Plus it's like $40 a square foot.

Get some subwoofers .. thats what fixed my prob.

expanding foam is a big no-no in most places (especially those with locking mechanisms, motors, electrical wiring, etc....).

the two things you can do are:

dampen: apply damper to the trans hump, firewall, floor, and trunk area. if thats not enough, do the doors.

insulate: add weather stripping-like material inbetwen all seams where parts come together. this will prevent a lot of rattling, squeeking, and shaking.
