I did it with tail light spray from Nite shade. You can get it off of ebay. the light still shines thru nice and bright. Its obviously not as bright as factory but you can still see the lights good. If anyone wants some nite pics with the lights on let me know and ill snap a few tomorrow night.

As for it being legal or not... im not sure. ill find out soon and let you guys know if i have any problems with it.

heres a link to a can of it on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2485481065&category=6755&sspagename=WDVW

Just search for nite shades. I also only used one can and did 3 coats on my tail lights and 3 on my third brake light. i have some left in the can and think im gonna do one coat on my reverse lights to darken them up a bit.

looks sick. How does it work, just spray directly onto tail lights?
75358, RE: Tail lights... before and after
Posted by Pitchblack98, Jul-26-04 03:55 AM
yeah it just sprays on very thin. I did about 3 coats total.

so, is it legal? or will cops be hunting you down?
Edit: also, did you already have your centerpiece painted black? or did you use the niteshades on that too?

well i had a cop get behind me on the way to work this morning and he never pulled me. He followed me for a good 5 miles or so in traffic.

I painted the canter piece black at the same time i tinted the sides. It still needs to be wetsanded and buffed out. Im have to wait for the paint to cure a little better before i do that. i painted it back and baked it in the over for about 30 mins. theni west sanded the black and buffed it. Stripped the wax off and cleared it. Ill let the clear cure natural so it doesnt turn orange from the heat. Then ill wet sand and buff it.

I don't see how it could be illegal if headlight/taillight covers are legal. :shrug

I'm pretty sure it's legal. The light isn't blocked at all from shining through. I also did my reverse lights. I had mine done for about a year with no problems so far. Mine aren't as dark tho...Here's a pic...

I don't think headlight nor tailight covers are legal in PA. I have been with people who were pulled over for such. Just my 2 cents.

It's illegal, but if the cop pulls you over its only a small fix it ticket. So most times they don't bother.

its legal...you still have the red reflectors and all the lights are still bright...the big thing with the add on light covers are that they block so much escaping light...you can't see shit at all. I've had mine done for a while now....at least a year or so...no probs at all. I mean, c'mon...you ever seen FD RX7 tails?? they are smoked out nwn.

Did you have to remove the lights or did you just mask them off?
75597, RE: Tail lights... before and after

either would work. Id rather take them off then risk over spray where I dont want it.

Could I tint my headlights with it?
75605, RE: Tail lights... before and after
Posted by Pitchblack98, Aug-02-04 03:46 AM
i removed the tail lights to tint them, but i masked the wing and hatch to tint the third brake light. Figure it was easier that way than takin the wing off tint it. you can tint your head lights with it. I plan on doin one coat on my headlights just to darken them slightly. I wouldnt do more than that cause you wont be able to see at night.

In OH they are legal but you must take them off during night time i believe.

i don't think tinting is illegal but cars a required to have a visible red REFLECTOR on the rear of the car. it's not whether the lights are visible that's gonna give you problems, it's the fact that you no longer have a red reflector. if you look at the new Lexus SUV's they come with clear tails that light up red. they get away with this b/c there are red reflectors mounted lower on the bumper. so they have red tail/stop lamps AND red reflectors.

they do look awesome though. :thumbsup

i like that one pic of the silver 2g with really dark tint, smoked tails, drop and no spoiler... idk if anyone has it.

my .02
A cop buddy told me that if you can feel the DOT impression on the taillights it's legal, now the problem is our tails don't have anything relating dot approved on them, so where does that leave us. Cops descretion. I'd check with local law enforcement.

Best eclipse I have ever seen IMO.

Also in SoCal a local cop told me that it was not legal due to the no red reflector shit... but thats cali, and they are tough on us here.

here in florida, i didn't have any problems with the cops about the set I had. I just wish i didnt' sell them shortly after I bought them. made a nice profit though. heheheheh.

Oh that pic has just decided my spoiler decision. I think I'll be going wingless instead of a turbo spoiler.
