Call me a noob, but the write-up isn't working and the posts that come up in the search all refer you to the write-up :wallbash so if someone could find it in their heart to tell me how to get the chime disabled but not the lights thatd be great. Thanks

Man I was wanting to read that myself and came to the same conclusion as you.

Here is the info I posted in another group about the Key Reminder Buzzer disable mod.

Here are the details from my experience with a 98 RS. You should remove the knee panel piece that goes across the bottom of the dash for best access (4 bolts). You can usually hang that panel near the door hinge area without unhooking the hood release cable. I also pull out the driver seat since it's pretty easy and then you can lay in there and work more comfortably. There is a white 7-position plug just inside the steering column lower cover. The connector is usually wrapped in grey foam so it doesn't rattle. The plug will either have 4 or 6 wires going to it. Those wires should be inside their own black tubing. When you find the plug and unconnect it it will hang down about 6-8 inches so it's easier to work with. If you do NOT have a factory alarm (I don't) there will only be four wires. Pins 1 and 2 are the power leads for the small light around the ignition key switch. Pins 4 and 6 are for the buzzer. When wires 4 and 6 are connected the system thinks the key is NOT in the ignition. So, if you place a small jumper inside the back of the connector, across those two pins, the buzzer will not sound anymore. I don't have a factory alarm but following the schematics it appears that this buzzer defeat fix should not affect the factory alarm sensor circuit that also needs to know whether the key is in the ignition or not. If you have a factory alarm you may want to test it to be sure it will still allow you to arm the system (It may not if it thinks the key is still in the ignition). The photos really tell you all you will need to know. I put a small loop of wire out the back of the connector and secured it with a tie-wrap. The label was installed to remind me years from now why I installed a jumper there. To restore the buzzer noise, just cut the small loop and it’s back to normal again. I did not solder the jumper in place. It simply touches the connector pins inside and since it does not need to supply any current it works just fine like that. You could get fancy and install a switch if for some reason you wanted to easily switch back and forth from buzzer to no buzzer.



Wire 4 color = Black
Wire 6 color = Green with yellow stripe



In this photo I have removed the jumper so it should look like this when you see the plug. With a factory alarm you would see 6 wires instead of 4. The camera in this shot is on the floor of the car below the brake pedal looking up towards the bottom of the steering column.







Here the fix is installed and ready to plug back into the harness. I printed the custom label to remind me (or future owners) why that loop of wire was installed.

I can tell whoever did that mod really does shit right with the tag and all.

does the buzzer still go off when you leave your lights on? ive wanted to get rid of the buzzer forever, but im afraid that i'll end up leaving my lights on all the time (i drive with them on almost all the time).. i should rig up some daytime running lamps

for the door buzzer....i just undid the 2 screws on the plunger on the door(the switch) and unclipped1 wire.ey IMO

The mod shown in the pics will only disable the "key left in ignition while door is open" chime. It will not alter the chime function when you accidently leave your lights on when exiting the car.

Cutting a wire at the door switch will disable other useful functions so I wouldn't recommend that.
