Well I am getting ready to fiberglass my door panels. My panels are the vinyl ones with the plastic speaker pieces along the bottom and plastic vent piece w/ the switches for power locks and windows. My question is, how should i go about fiberglassing the panels? Usually when I do fibgerglassing, i strecth fleece and apply resin to it and it hardens up good with like 3-4 good coats of resin but i dont think the resin sticks to plastic and i dont wanna strecth fleece cuz it doesnt look professional and looks alot thicker and doesnt fit right when installed again. how should i do this??????

Use an epoxy resin instead of a polyester resin. Also score the crap out of your surface using a very very course grit sandpaper.

where can i find epoxy resin ??? so i should just score the hell out of the vinyl and plastic on the panels then just apply the epoxy resin to whole panel and it will stick to the vinyl/plastic ????

And you can get epoxy at most marine shops.

pretty sure you could even get the resin at autozone...but i would head to a marine shop...as i am sure their shit will be mo betta.
Fuggit dood...jus make a complete mold of your door and make a one pice glass door. Then learn to lay carbon fiber and sell teh panels.

Use WES system expoxy resin. It comes in a white pail that was WES on it. You can get it at Boaters World or a place like that. It's like 100 a gallon, but expoxy is clear, not yellow like polyester resin. Plus it's alot stronger.

Make sure you mix it right, if it dries to fast it will crack easyier.

ya um i cant seem to rip off the vinyl on the doors .... i got it off of the insert but wont come off the doors ...... ????

I am fiberglassing mine as well and what I did was get some RS door panels and cut the control panels out of the GS door panels for the controls and and did a custom speaker enclosure for the speaker and bondo'd the control panel and bondo'd in the whole from the manual crank, and gonna spray it with fiberglass and have it painted with car paint and clear. I have some pics I will put up after work of my progress.

I get the spray fiberglass from a fiberglass distributor for 90 bucks a gallon. The gallon will do an entire interior panels and still have some left.

well i still dont know how im gonna fiberglass the door since it is half plastic and half vinyl and the vinyl wont come off the doors. i dont think regular yellow resin or epoxy resin will mold to the plastic or vinyl ... what shall i do?

That is why you get the RS door panels like I did and modify them. The RS door panels are all plastic.

I'm telling you dude, epoxy resin is almost the same shit that epoxy glue is made from, and yes, it will fuckin stick to the doors.

okay well the vinyl wont come off the door to use the epoxy resin ... i tried cutting it with a razor blade to rip it off and it wont even rip off .... will the epoxy resin stick to the vinyl? also, ive never used the epoxy resin before, if i do like 3 coats of it, how much sanding is involved ... i used the regular resin before and i had to sand a shitload ... ?

Dude, give up on the vinyl doors. If you can't get a clean plastic surface you're just gonna waste your time. Go to the junk yard and get some RS door panels imo.

no my RS panels are VINYL, lol ... i can pull some plastic ones off though from a junk yard though ... i am planning on spraying this foam shit they sell @ a local paint shop onto the whole vinyl door panel though and laying epoxy resin over it with like 4 coats and the guys from the store said this will work. the foam doesnt expand more than a 1/16" so it wont make it real thick like normal spray foam would. dont know if this is gonna work, but they said it would!

Dude, omg, you're fuckin killin me here. If you spray something over the vinyl then glass over that you're going to end up with a bloated marshmallow looking door panel. Go to the junkyard, get some RS all plastic doors and glass those. If you have to shave the window cranks or whatever it will look 100000000000000000 times better than you trying to fuck with that vinyl.

yes i have power windows and locks on my door panels. the foam doesnt expand, its absords into the vinyl and is also pretty hard, its not mushy at all. then the resin will absorb into the foam spray. it will work out. its not what you are thinking of, trust me! lol

Then you don't have RS door panels in your RS then. You must have done a GS power window converstion. Unless some of them came like that...but I was never aware that they put power windows in an RS with the vinyl door panels. I thought they were all plastic with manual cranks.:shrug

In '98 they made a eclispe RS with what was called the "power conversion". stock 14's, no sunroof, unpainted door handles and mirrors, but with powerlocks and power windows, that was my 1st eclipse. then the damn ex took it to hawaii... hehe. fuckin nocal chics...
