It's been brought up here before, but do any companies manufactuer Speedglass that is cut to fit (not 3 inches over, like most places I've talked to) for our cars, and is stock thickness and so forth? I'm thinking of getting my car redone using it, for weight reduction/security/the fact that normal glass costs so damned much to begin with.

what the hell is speed glass? you mean fal plexi glass? its not legal and you have to pop rivit it onto the car

Lexan windows. I know it's not legal. What do we do that is? People I've spoken to say it can be placed just like stock, if cut to stock specifications.

can automotive glass shop cut it to factory size?
since its not *technically* legal, i wonder if they would even touch it like muffler shops and our cats. :rolleyes

i really dont trust my hand at cutting it down to the right size, especially on a curve.
either way i wouldnt do the windshield
but thats just me being paranoid about a bad install

Edit: It's also a security thing, since Lexan is shatterproof.

I used to work for a residental glass company and we could get lexan and cut it to fit in cars. We did it for a guys civic. It's just 3/16 lexan(very pricy though) remove your old glass, lay it on a table. Cut the lexan to close to the right size, a little bigger actually, put it in an oven for liek 5 minutes to heat it and make it mallable. Lay it on top of the glass and let it cool. It wont be perfect fit, but it will be mighty close. Once it's cool you can cut it perfectly, but the curve wont be the same exact angle so it'll be hard to roll down.

You can cut it with a jigsaw. It cuts easily, you just can't break it, hehe :). Thats why it's illegal, cuz when you wreck they can't break it to get you out.

You could try to make a fiberglass mold of your window, then form the lexan using the heating method to the fiberglass and you would have an exact match.

Just an option, prolly cheaper then buying pre made windows. And you can roll em up and not rivet them in.
