71163, does this sound too good to be true?

ok i was in eckerds earlier and saw one of those car sale ad things and a paint ad caught my eye. its some economy paint shop around here with some pretty good prices. the one i am interested has these details.........dupont 2-k urethane paint to withstand florida's climate, machine sanded, 1 coat sealant, 3 coats paint, 1 coat of clearcoat, and a 4 year warranty. all that for only 399.95. it sounds a little too good to be true but you never know imo. is it worth the risk? i can scan the ad if anyone wants.

too good to be true

hell, the red (just the color) paint came to about $300-400... then you add on reducer, clearcoat, and hardener.... mine came out to about $700 just for paint and chemicals (BTW Radiant Fire Red is fucking expensive, then again it was PPG's "flagship" of paints... Deltron Polyurathane Enamel)

well the ad just says that they use dupont paint and i would probably just repaint it the oem color so i dont know if its still too good to be true or a decent price.

paintjobs are one of those things where you get exactly what you pay for.. so my vote is too good to be true.

Too good to be true. I guarantee that is false advertisement. Think about it they can put whatever they want in there ads these days. If they use Dupont paint in there shops then they can put that in the ad. They will most likely use a very cheap paint, because how will you know its not Dupont...??? You won't until its too late.

Plus there 4 year warrenty probably has so many stipulations its not even funny. If you read their fine print it probably says if you don't keep it garage kept it voids the warrenty...or if you wash your car more then 3 times a week. You have to be very careful with things like that.

But like everyone has mentioned before...you get what you pay for. I am getting my car painted next month after I finish the fiberglass and body work. Its running me $3200 for the whole car. So this is one of the things that you do get what you pay for.

shit i got my car painted after i got my body kit on at maaco and it cost me $382.47 after taxes and everything..... i just didnt want to drive around with a blue body kit and a white car, it looked superduperGAY!

anyways, i didnt think they did that bad of a job... yeah the cracks from the fiberglass show through and there are a few little chips on the front(110+ on the highway will do that to a guy) but shit, standing 3 ft back you cant see any of it. it might also be because its white and those things are harder to see on white. im thinkin about getting it touched up and then having somebody clear coat it for me..... all that and im still under $600.

now its not going to be NEARLY as good as the $3200 job but you seem to be like me where you dont want to spend thousands of dollars to have your car painted so you might want to think about that.

1 clear coat is crap. If I were you I wouldnt get anything thing less than 4 coats of clear. The clear is what makes the paint last a long time and shine.
