I used it on both, I will look for pics. I only painted the back seats and it held up fine because I rarely had a passenger back there. But when I did, the paint didnt rub off on their clothes or anything. Just do it in light coats and wear gloves and rub it between coats (or use a brush) or else it will get stiff. The carpet I would recommend using dye. The paint loooked good for a while and I even put scoth guard on it, but it eventually wore off where your feet go.

Would it be better to use black dye on the seats or the paint?

id say a dye. paint just sits on the surface and only slightly penetrates the cloth....almost like a thin shell. with dye...it actually stains the carpet, its not a shell, so it wont crack and wont rub off near as easily.

I used ritz dye on my carpet. It isnt worth it. I took it all out of the car(PITA) and soaked it in a little kiddie pool full of the dye. after taking it out and letting it dry it was barely a shade darker. It was really messy and a year and a half later you cant tell i did it.

I never used the dye, but I would think that the color might not be that even. with paint you can spray it evenly alot easier. I dont know though. get a headrest or something, and a piece of carpet from a junkyard and try both methods.
