Ok guys, as most of you know I just finished my interior. I think it came out unbaleivable, now I got a HUGE issue.

Easter sunday I decide to take my car out for a special day ride. Temps got to about 60-70 in my area, EVERYTHING that was in direct sunlight in my car that I painted with fusion, is SUPER STICKY. Me and my girl got black all over our clothes, and on my BRAND NEW tenzo seats..WTF..This shit is supposed to be for Vynel and Plastic.
Everything was fine and dandy till temp rose. Right now everything that got hot is still sticky, I can't explain this...here is a link to the krylon site for fusion. Read it NO PREP NEEDED, just spray on.

I wrote to them stating my issue....let's see if I get a response.

I mean shit if it says for use on this application it should be good, if not the company should stand by the shit they make and replace my interior. Fuck this I'm super pissed, I was so impressed with the way it came out. It wasn't bad till it got hot.

Everything is MINT and that was before. The flash made it look glossy but infact it really isn't.

Before the heat it was MINT, now it's sticky. The paint laid down very nice no runs, bubbles, or imperfections. Like I said I was very impressed, TILL NOW!!!!

Isn't the part of your door that you painted soft vinyl? If so that would probably be why it did that. It's not really for use on any type of soft vinyls, only hard. That happened to me with my armrest.

There is a slim chance you can clearcoat the Fusion with another product (SEM possibly) which might seal the surface of the Fusion and keep you from having to strip the entire project and do it over. I have never used the Fusion paint but I saw no references on the Sherwin Williams web site that it was suggested for flexible vinyl. We use flexible vinyl sheet at work and have learned that the plastizers that keep the vinyl soft will migrate or outgas throughout the life of the product (especially when heated) and we have had to do months of long term testing to avoid our adhesives and paint from failing after being applied to the soft vinyl.
If you try the clearcoat test, do it on a small part and let it cook in the sun for several days before undertaking anymore parts. It may be completely incompatible with the fusion paint and bubble up. Might be a good idea to test it on a junk yard part first. Good luck.

i used that fusion shit when it first came out, on my trunk... (my entire interior was going to be that "Patriotic Blue" or whatever... it chips off in no time... my trunk looks like shit now, imo (and not because its blue either) i can get pics if you need them to make your case or whatever...

Aw jeesus guys. A) NevAr paint anything with a spray can B) Always use SEM paint on flexible stuff. C) If you didnt already know this, stop doing it yourself. D) DUH!!11!

I am in the middle of a I huge problem. I recently used you product Krylon Fusion on my World Of Wheels show car. I used it on the interior door panels and rear plastic peices.
The finished product came out GREAT, I can supply pictures. My problem came this last sunday, Easter sunday. I took my car out for a special day out. Temp outside got to about 60 since I live in the East coast and it's still winter weather here. I would say top temp in car got to about 70F.
Well here is my issue, Everything exposed to direct sunlight got sticky, and all over our clothes and my Brand new Tenzo Racing seats. Since the doors rub against the seats when closed. Everything still remains sticky that got warm. Thing is that it all was perfect and this product is made for this type of application. I don't understand what happened. I would like to receive a response to this matter as soon as possible. If this product is infact not made for vynel and plastic applications, mabey it shouldn't say so on the cans.

i just spent over 200$ buying an entir new interior because i painted mine with duplicolor and it got sticky...

i was always under the impression you needed to use a dye not a spray paint on soft vinyl :shrug i used duplicolor hi temp engine paint and clearcoat on all my trim peices...no chiping, no flaking, no sticky. if it can hold up to the texas heat it can go through anything imo....maybe with the exception of phoenix. anyways...maybe yall are using the wrong paint or not letting it cure or something...i dunno...iv never had any problems what so ever

SEM Color Coat is the shit. If you re-do anything in your interior use that stuff. Comes in a variety of colors too.

i painted my car with testors hobbie paint. never cracked or got sticky. good luck with that i hope ya hear something back asap.

Thank you for your inquiry. A few things to help us better understand your application:

1. What exact product was used to wipe down areas before painting?
2. When was the product applied (how many days before use)?
3. What were the temperatures and humidity when applying the product? In the drying/curing area?
4. Were the areas painted all rigid, or was the product applied to softer vinyl?

I sent them some answers let's see what happens....

I painted my a-pillar gauge pod with black krylon fusion and it came out fine and still looks like the day i painted it. I did it three months ago.

Oh man that blows and after you just did all that work to get the car done. When i painted a few parts in my car (gauge trim, radio trim, and areas in maual door panels when the cloth is on power doors) i used the interior paint that jc whitney sells. only problem was the blue did not match. So i used JC whitneys plastic primer, "painters touch" blue from home depot, and jc whitneys plastic interior paint sealer. its been two years and the paint is indestructable....my dogs nails dont even hurt it. yes i have let my dog in my car!

For what its worth, i dont have a set of door panels to give ya but i do have the hatch plastic, and the pieces that go around the quarter window.....they are yours if you pay shipping. i do have a dash.....still grey its yours for 35.00 + shipp. perfect shape...no paint....sorry.

for all the other vultures out there....these prices do not include you...lol

I bet people who used that SEM shit when they painted their armrests can still say nice things about them. :P I used some Rustoleum I had lying around to do my trim pieces in the dash. The only place it's coming off is the trim behind the driver's door handle since there was no primer or clear used and it gets rubbed by the back of my hand so often. No big whoop. SEM for serious interior coloring imo.

The painted parts that got fucked up is only the door...and console cover. The dash I have is in MINT condition...it's a stock black one.

Thanks Turbo Talon...Your the man for sure, but only peices I need is console cover and doors...everything else in the car is MINT.

Your answers to questions 2-4 are perfect, however the main issue can be found in your answer to question #1. When painting plastic/hard vinyl surfaces with the Krylon Fusion, it is very important to wipe down new surfaces with paint thinner. Paint thinner neutralizes the plasticizers inherent within the substrate. If the plasticizers are not neutralized, the product can peel or soften, especially when exposed to heat.

At this point there are two (2) solutions:

1.) Remove it - take the Fusion off the surface and leave the surface clean and dry
The best choice is Mineral Spirits.
Denatured Alcohol will also work but is not as efficient.
Turpentine will also work but is stinky and slow to dry.

OR

2.) Seal it - seal the sticky Fusion paint to the surface
Apply 2 medium coats of Krylon Low Odor Clear #7110 Gloss or 2 medium coats of Minwax Polycrylic (same as Krylon Low Odor Clear)

The 2nd option typically works, but we would recommend a test area.

The the first thing I was gonna say was did you prep the surface 90% of all painting problems comes with NOT prepping the surface. You are supposed to use a 400 grit paper and thinner on plastic then paint AND let it seal before it hits sunlight otherwise you're SOL
