How would I go about making a amp rack that goes up and down with a switch?

Very carefully!

Nah, you would need some kind of actuator. Look on ebay or google "linear actuator".

Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=26455&item=2469166527
Do some research on them.

Anything else besides the actuator????

d000000d...i would honestly have someone else do it...take no offense...but if you need to know what you need beyond an actuator...then methinks you have not the skills to pull it off.

I say practice with an actuator outside of your car to see how it works and what its capabilities are in your hands before it sees the inside of your car....my $0.02 IMO :shrug

I am not sure what all you need to make the actuator work, like a control box or something like that. thats why i said do a little research on it. But if you are asking what else you need to make the thing work, i would try something like the rails from your keyboard tray...this would give the rack a smooth thing to slid in. not sure how you want it to work exactly, where you want it to come out of i mean.

the only way is with a acuator, you need the actuaor, limit switches, 6 position switch, pluse you need welding skills, a slide tabel. So if you dont know how dont do it

*edit*
