Hey everyone, I was wondering if its hard to take off the headliner and put it back on? Im wanting to check out why my sunroof isnt working. When I bought the car it didnt work either. I've just wanted to get it to work. All the fuses to it are fine.

Also, i've noticed on some pics that ppl have like a sunroof shade that you pull closed. --i dont have that- it looks like maybe somethings broke on the sunroof.

If i push my hand at the top aginst it it will move up a bit, so its al little loose. And when a Semi-truck drives by it rattles it pretty good. Anyways, just wanted to get some tips for the headliner removal and perhaps some insight with the sunroof problems. Thanks!

Not sure that you would have to remove the headliner for any part of what you are trying to accomplish. As far as it being loose you can just get the right size torx and tighten it down from the inside. Mine has been loose a couple times and it just takes a couple turns on each screw.

As far as it not working you would probably just need to get at the motor where the switch is.

Lastly the sunroof shade that you speak of installs easiest from the top without taking the sunroof or the headliner off.

Now, to answer your question... The headliner is not extremely difficult to get off. Just have to take off alot of trim pieces to get to the tabs tha hold it up. Its kindof a PITA but not horrible. Like I said above though I am not sure you will gain anything by doing this.

Ok, just by assumption; Taking the headliner off to gain access to the motor that controls the sunroof. How big is it? And can I remove it without removing the headliner? and thanks for the tips on tightening the screws.

I think that motor you are referring to is a tad farther forward....behind the headliner. The headliner is easy to remove in my opinion.

1) Remove driver and passenger A and B pillars. See the corners of the headliner...yea it's just tabbed down with little plastic things.

2) Remove the 'oh shit' handle. The plastic pieces at the end slide out of place and reveal the 10mm bolts you need to remove. (Careful...these bolts can snap if not removed slowly or straight on)

3) Peel away the plastic trim that wraps around the headliner where it meets the sunroof...it just pulls off easily.

4) Remove the rear plastic trim piece that runs across the back of the headliner and connect to the roof. I just slide it towards the back of the car and wiggled it...then kinda bend it to pull the ends from behind the rear trim pieces.

5) The headliners bends easily and will retain its shape...dont worry about bending it...even extremely...it will go right back to how it was before you bent it. So....you can bend it if it helps to remove it.

6) Remove Sunvisors and plastic sun visor 'clips' with a phillips head screwdriver. Then remove the center trim that goes around the sunroof button. (Pop off the flat panel with a flat head and then remove the two phillips head screws)

There may be some other misc. trim...but thats about it. After this you can easily see all kinds of shit. I was long winded here...but it's easier than it seems.

Ok thanks, Im going to 'crack' into it and see if there is any noticable problems. I would like to get it working, it has been on my mind since i've owned the car that it hasnt worked. Anyways thanks for the tips and all-

You're never going to believe this guys, but I took down the front part of the headliner and stuck my head up there to see whats wrong, and I noticed that the switch was unplugged from the motor!!! I quickly plugged it back in and it worked!!! My heart almost stopped!

All this time I just assumed that the motor was out because i could hear some type of tick when i pressed the button. I've owned the car over two years and I have never been able to work the sunroof.

Thanks alot, im glad my sunroof is fine and dandy and it'll make driving my car that much more fun now that summer is comming. Thanks again!

Sorry to jump in your post but... That kinda joy reminds me of my (now dead) sunroof... which I ended breaking up one of the rails and cutting up the cable so I could finally close my sunroof after 3 days fighting with it. (Check post below)

I guess things were not up to me this time. Now I'm in for a new rail, cable, and whatever else needs to be replaced that I ended up smashing... Hey BuckNutty ! I guess your course of action worked and God it felt great !!! :evilgrin

you were joyful to kill it!? --I've heard it can be costly to repair expecially from a dealer. But I planned on going to a salvage yard to find the parts I needed. Couldnt you get your cables / ect. there? Or are you even interested in fixing it?

Bro; I was so damn frustrated that my sunroof wouldn't close. I mean think about it; once you realize that because of the sunroof being open all the time you are not going to be able to have a "normal life" believe me it can become a serious hell; it's just not fun at all.
For Example:
1) I couldn't park my ride anywhere and walk 30 feet away from it 'cuz having the sunroof open is having the car open; someone might just steal the stuff inside or even the car... (and there is no pleasure in thinking about that!)
2) It has been raining here lately and dude ... believe me; it's not fun at all getting soak-dripping-wet while you drive; like I said, BELIEVE ME.
3) I couldn't even get a good night sleep thinking that my ride was parked out in the streets "wide open".
So... Realizing that the cable was stuck inside the rail and after almost 2-3 days trying to close the damn thing I knew that some x-treme measures had to be taken. You have a point: I know I am going to probably regret breaking it up when I ask around for prices... but it is better to ride around with the sunroof closed (like a normal car) and not being able to open it, than to ride ALL THE TIME with it opened and NOT being able to close it and ride anywhere at all... You know what I mean ?
About the joy thing.. I think you misunderstood me. I meant that it reminded me how good it felt that after turning the engine on and rolling down the windows; it felt heavenly-close-to-heaven opening up the sunroof... that's what I meant (although I didn't feel really bad about breaking the sunroof either - who doesn't have fun when it comes to destroying things up huh?-
Which reminds me bro'... Now that you have your sunroof working, make sure you grease it up like a :censored ... You definetly don't want anything getting into the rail and making your cable get stuck in there :nono ... and sorry...my bad for the misunderstanding.
