68749, Is there a difference between black paints? Posted by ughhhead, Mar-14-04 03:39 PM
so i'm about to buy some black paint for my car. i got my car painted at maaco and they did a shit job so 1 year and 3 months later i'm repainting almost 75% of my car. if i just go snag a gallon of black paint, is it going to be different from the black that they used. i guess the bottom line is, is one black different from another black, i'm talking strictly color. it's possible that some blacks might be a little more glossy or quicker drying, etc... but with all that aside, is there a difference in color between different companies black paint? (this could quite possibly be the stupidest question i've ever asked on here, bare with me). thanks in advance.

Yea. Probably a base plus clear. if you just throw some black on there it will be totally obvious. Get it done right.

there is actually WHITE in the black paint on my car... no not all black is the same, good question however. I always thought they would be close... you'd be stunned how badly two different black match.

ok shit, sooo i have a small 2oz sample of touch up paint that maaco gave me. would i be able to take that somewhere and have them match it. i haven't looked at that bottle of touch up paint for a pretty long time, but would that have the paint code on the bottle? thanks for your replies.
