68630, Another Question About Interior Painting
Posted by EclipseTenzoR, Mar-12-04 07:14 PM
I was painting my interior and It all looks really great and it is sticking to the vinyl no problem, but the thing is if it gets scratched or ruffed up a little bit it will chip off. Is there anykind of clear coat that I can spray on it to protect it from happening? Please get back to me a.s.a.p I am trying to get my car back together.

Thanks In Advance

Mike

The only bad thing about the clear is that it will get sticky in the sun. Just depends on if you are willing to put up with it or not.

It will not get sticky if its on the plastic parts. I used alot of clear on all my plastic pieces. I just used the stuff they sell at Home Depot. "Painter's Touch" I think it was called.

If you don't want to worry about it, then go the long route, and sand them all down, spray with adhesion promoter/primer, then sealer, then spray with automotive paint and automotive clear. It will not chip or flake if you do it right. Look on my page: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/440224/7
There is one pic where I did the AC surround half assed because I was dredding sanding it after doing all the other pieces. It chipped. I finally did it the hard way, and it came out awesome like the rest of the pieces I did. Just my .02c

i painted my interior pieces both vynal and plastic... (gotta luv the spelling) i painted them orange by sanding them down primering them white and painting them orange then i clear coated them till i wuz happy. it hasn't gotten sticky yet but then again it snowed up here two days ago. also i did some custom stuff and painted a orange mitsubishi symbol on the visor's mirror cover.. looks great but i didn't wanna screw it up so i didn't even clear coat it. it doesn't get touched much anywayz so it should be fine
