I remember seeing a while back a guy on the board that was making guage holders for the center vents. He said that he could make them with no holes cut in them. I searched for a while but couldn't find it. I want to mount my cd player where the center vents are so I can put a TV where the cd player is. Anybody know who I am talking about? Also, I have seen a few people who have their CD players there, do you guys have any advise for install? How hard is it to get enough clearance in the back and how did you support the back of the CD player. TIA guys.

if there's not enough space behind, what some people have done with custom installs is just mount the faceplate there. if your deck has a removable faceplate and you look at the connections you'll see that it wouldn't be all that difficult to rig up a wire harness to connect the faceplate remotely to the actual deck. then you can put the deck wherever you want (even in the stock location behind your tv screen) and have your faceplate mounted where the vents are. if you need access to the deck for putting in cds just put it in the glove box or something.

i know i've seen pics before with the faceplate mounted in like the headliner or something cool like that. can't remember where i saw them though.. :P

there plenty of room back there is your removed the vent ducts. only problem with that is you will have to block off the hvac blower that sends air to the dash vents. you will lose all of your dash vents. the front defroster will still work but nothing else in the dash will including the defrosters on the doors. but hey other than that theres a lot of room in there if you take all that out.

This sounds like a bad ass idea...I wouldn't mind relocating my face to my visor...flip up when not in use...hmmm idea ideas

so do the door vents still work (the main ones, not the defroster vents on the doors). idk what the ducting looks like so just wondering...

Yes, exactly like that only I just want it blank so I can cut the hole for the cd player. Did you make that yorself? Looks good. Anybody know a good way to support the back of the cd player in there?

i used to have my 1/2 DIN eq in that spot, and i tried installing my HU in there for a while, but the piece i used to surround it ended up breaking. a HU WILL fit in there, but there will be a weak point in the upper right-hand side of it, where the material gets thin. you could probably design some kind of brace to support that weak spot, or use some kind of overlay on top of the are that isnt actually supporting wieght.

heres how i did mine: first, i traced the pattern of the panel onto a piece of cardboard to make a template. after checking and adjusting the template a few times (to make sure it fit well), i traced the template onto a piece of 1/2" MDF. after making a reconstruction of the panel w/ a hole for the HU in it, i pressure-fit the front of the HU into place, and secured the HU in w/ the trim ring to make sure it didnt slide forward (into the hole). i then reduced the duct by a couple inches w/ a dremmel and left a "flap" of the plastic that i used to secure a 90 degree brace that attached to the back of the HU. this kept the HU from popping out when i accelerated.
