I am fiberglassing my interior, i will post pictures soon.

Ive ripped off my dash, and im not going to make a fiberglass mold of it, that is just too much work and complication.

So what is the next best thing i can do while my dash is off?
Cause i want it to be black and have some blue accents in in some where, still debating on that.

Can i scuff it and lay down fiberglass matting and do it that way, but not technically make a mold or anything? Im confused on what to do. So if someone out here knows anything. Please help me. thanks,

I was under the impression thats how everyone does it. It would be alot of work to make a whole new dash. Sounds like you should have no problems. I would love to see pics too, someday I am actually going to start mine. You actually made molds of everything else? I was just going to fiberglass over the existing one because I figured it would be easier that way.

if you want to keep the original dash i think you should be able to just get some epoxy resin (comes in 2 parts that you mix, black and white, it has to be a light gray when mixed if the one i use to work with if not unsure) and put that over the dash sand,prime,paint and if you want clear coat it takes a few hours to harden but i think that would be a good way to do iti dont see why it woudnt work if im wrong let me kno

use fiberglass mat too imo. Just resin would be a major PITA to sand.

Why would you make a mold of any of the parts. My whole entire interior is the stock trim sanded down to a smooth finish and painted w/ urethene paint w/ a flex coat. No need for any fiberglass at all, just sand it all down smooth and paint it.

This is how all the custom shops do it. They don't use any fiberglass at all. Its not like the fiberglass will give you weight savings either. If anything fiberglass is actually worse than the stock plastic pieces b/c with fiberglass it can crack easily and either give you fiberglass hairlike pressure cracks or an actual brake in the piece. Only use fiberglass if you want to alter the stock trim and add some custom part to it. I did fiberglass my door speaker pods, second gauge cluster, all the shaving, headliner, keypad space........ but those are simply custom additions. If you want just the sine than use stock trim and just sand it down.

well importxs, that is what i did with the rest of my interior, i added custom tribal desins to it, and extra speaker pods, now as far as the dash goes, im not doing anything custom with that, other than a ps2 where my air bag was, soo...give me the tech support on what steps you've taken to achieve your interior the way it looks. thanks,

and where did u buy your camera at, cause my system is playing a part just like urs, im going to need to invest in that. Give me some info, website, anything on that too. thanks.

i am fiberglassing my interior b/c i have had bad problems with the paint chipping. I am doing the simple procedure of just scuffing of the plastic with rough sand paper and throughing bondo over that. Seems to be working very nicely:

this is all the same oclor blue ( bad glare). All my accents are going to be in blue and the larger panels in black. I am priming and painting with an airbursh. I still need to do a clear coat:

Made the headliner myself. Used original headliner as a template and worked from there. For the dash simply sand it down till its smooth. I used 80, 180, 320 grit then 400 wet then 600 wet. Then you paint it w/ a urethene paint and add a flex agent to the paint. If you do not do either one of these steps the paint will chip off.

As far as the camera for the rear view I did a search on google for security car cameras and a bunch of sites came up. I can't remember which company I purchased it from but it was about 180 bucks. Let me know if you need any more info.

i've just finished my dash i sanded it smooth and painted it black. but where the passenger side air bag was i molded my safc 2 and a 2 5/8 phantom fuel pressure gauge in where the air bag was. Kind of out and pointed towards the driver. I'll try and get my damn camera to work so i can post some pics

ok so i will get every one of those types of sandpaper. I take it that u used a lot? I will work on getting the urethane paint a little later. Also is there a name of the flex agent? where would i get it at? a local automotive store or a local paint store? thanks,

heres what i did. scuffed the dash up and laid small strips of glass to the dash. didnt want to make it too thick becasue it was a pain to get it all to smooth out without the waves. didnt work like i wanted it to. what i ended up doing is to carefully rip off the vinyl, there is foam on the dash that it is laid over. with the foam exposed i just drenched it down with resin. let dry and put about 3 more coats on it sanding in between coats. then u can use marglass to help shape the origional dash contours. i ripped the vinyl off too fast and it took some of the foam off so i have to shape alot. if u use a hairdryer and some pliers (gets hot) to slowly pull it away u will be fine. i didnt want to paint over the vinyl because i wanted it to be solid. the foam gets rock solid and a good base for the paint.

180!!?!!! You got ripped, I just bought one for 25 at ebay, and the one I had befor that was 35? what dose yours do?

Ha, I bought that same camera on eBay also for 25 bucks and guess what, the image is reversed, the right side is the left and vice versa. I coudln't use that b/c imagine looking at the LCD screen and seeing the sides reversed. You would think nobody is in the lane when they really are. The guy wouldn't even refund me the money for it. On top of that it don't auto-focus. You have to preset it to be focused at a certain distance and everything in between is blurry. You get what you pay for.

wel if u dont want to deal with all the painting just go to your local fabric store buy some vinyl and re-wrap your whole dash and interior with it . thats what i did came out great i used blue and black vinyl.

damn im still debating on the best way to do this...AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! :shrug i just want it to be smooth and not look like shit when painted like my other fiberglassed interior.

Take the dash out. Sand with a large and small Dual Action sander(use the small one for tight spots) -step the grits down to make it smooth. Spray with a good sealer/adhesion promoter. Scuff, Prime, sand more, paint, then clear. All done....Lotsa work, but it'll look awesome when you're done. Good Luck. That's just what I'd do.

Importxs your interior is crazy man. Good show. I'd imagine you win an ass ton of shows for what, looks good. If I can ask you one thing why did you take those pics with those rims on it? It makes the car look like hell and you really have done a nice job w/ your setup. Were your show rims at the shop? lol

my main concern with the fiberglassed dash is hitting a bump and it crackin. That is my worst fear.

So what worked out better for ya'll...sanding it, or pulling the vinyl off and soakin the foam? What would hold up better?

Reason being is I am about to fiberglass my dash, I have the dash out and the tv bracket I made out of wood fiberglassed into the passenger side airbag. Now what I did next was put duraglass and bondo over the edges to smooth it to the dash and make it look seemless. But right around the edges the duraglass and bondo will not stick to the dash, keeps seperating a hair. I need to know how to remedy this and which way is best to fiberglass my dash so this doesn't crack.

I am going to NOPI on the 18th and we leave the 17th to head down so that only leaves me 8 days to get this done. Need your help guys.

I read alot of what was talked about on fibergalssing the dash it shouldn't crack on you.....my personal thought resin mat firstcoat, tigerhair second coat and a regular top coat spot glaze where needed.You shoudn't have any problems.adhesion to your base is the key as fiberglass is a constant and your base isn't....(foam backed).Making sure it's all bolted back into place will help reduces bouncing and all that good stuff.Theres alot of advice in the search for "fiberglass dash", hope you get it man pics and a write up from you IMO for future reference.

yes I used the search and always use it before I ask a question. This one is a little more specific then most of my posts and intricate and just want a positive reasurance on it.
