67174, i love these hood pins Posted by willmayo, Feb-18-04 06:12 PM
i got sick of those hoodpins with the cotterpins holding them down, so i went to ramchargers and saw these, made by ford racing. they were like $35.00 but they're nice as hell, they look great and they're really high quality. i had to trim the threaded portion of the pins to get them to fit, and i went through 2 metal cutting blades for the sawzall making 2 cuts. the lanyards still need to be mounted in, right now they're just pushed under the hood somewhere but i'll get that done tomorrow. anyways heres a pic:

I think the hood pins look pretty tight, but who are those different than that "cotter pin" variety, except that now the cotter pin has a cable attached.
Is this to prevent you from losing them while you open your hood? Cause i can't see that it does anything beyond that..
(besides look cool, which they def. do) :thumbsup

Looks good. But i would be worried about them slapping around and scratching the hell outta my hood. They look kinda large and floppy... hmmmm

obviously none of you guys have worked on a farm. Those are just what they call "Lynch Pins" You can go to TSC (tractor supply company) and get them for about 2.50 a piece. It's what I would use if I got a carbon hood...actually I'm surprised that hood pins don't use them more then cotter pins. :thumsup

ugh more pics?!? i'll take them in the morning, just got off of work and im hella tired. i'll measure the diameter of the circle things too. they dont flop around, and the only area that they actually touch is covered by those chrome pieces, which is the whole purpose of the chrome thing in the first place. the normal cotterpins require alotta energy to pull out, and once they're freed they just fly out of the pin, every time that i'd pull out the cotter pin i'd have to exercise extreme caution because on my old hood i put scratches all over it, the other day one of my friends yanked out a pin and put a nice little scratch in my hood, so i said to hell with it and pitched the cheap pins in favor of these, which i think look better, as well as save my hood from idiots.

i know a guy at school who has the same thing, but he got his wrapped with somethig on the outside, so no rubbage or scratching or anything....looks pretty neat too..just a thought. and chris...whats wrong with growing up/working on a farm? :P j/p with ya man
EDIT: the lynch pins at TC are bigger than whats on his car. usually we use those to attatch tractor implements, if he used those he woulda had to put in a damn 3/4 peice of sucker rod through his hood hahah. and yes, i grew up on a farm

LOL....well they make different sizes :P. but I got to thinking...you would probally be hard pressed to find chrome lynch pins at TSC too. Most farmers are not to concerned about the bling factor of their 3 point equipment. :+

mine = not bling
the only bling is the ring mounted to the hood, the pins themselves aren't chrome, they look/feel like aluminum
btw: measurments and pics comin later, i got the whole damn car apart right now trying to get my damn alarm to work right.

I get my nitrous bottle fillied up at Ramchargers. Those hood pins look good
|
67365, RE: more pics Posted by willmayo, Feb-21-04 11:30 AM
ramchargers charges alot to fill up nitrous, theres other places around here that will fill it up for like 60% of what ramchargers charges. anyway i havent forgot about u guys, just been busy so i'll get the measurments and other pics as soon as i can.

Have any of you guys that aren't into the "Cotter Pins" thought about just getting hood locks? that way you don't have anything flopping around, and you also don't have cotter pins. Just a thought.....

67404, RE: more pics Posted by blckeclipse95, Feb-22-04 04:34 AM
Hood locks are what I got for my fiberglass hood. Seem to work pretty good. Wish they were stronger though, but they do the job.
