66919, Getting door handles/mirrors painted? (Or is it better to purchase prepainted ones?) Posted by GhEttOrAiD, Feb-15-04 05:34 AM
Well... I want to get my mirrors/handles painted to match my (silver) body... but I'm wondering if it's generally more cost effective (or long-lasting/durable) if I purchased prepainted parts and tossed my black ones?
I'm going to get a quote for painting them on monday, but I'd like to see what people think... I mean maybe the body shop will say "Yeah sure we can do it" (but then the paint will be peeling 3 months down the road)

I would think that as long as you went to a decent shop, you should have no problems at all.

i'm just wondering if the prepainted ones are special in some way i.e. not as prone to chipping because of different painting techniques... techniques which your avg shop might not know to use

I doubt it. I can tell you that I had them painted on my red one by what I would consider a less than average shop. No problems with the handles or mirrors at all.
Which ever way you go, it will definetly make your car look better.

take em to a shop to get painted. less hassle. just make sure the shop is a reputable one. shouldnt be more than 50 bux.

I repainted my friends door handles with a urethene paint with a flex coat addetive and its been holding up very good for over 4 months now. As long as they use the right paint and sand down the parts properly than it will stay on and look good.

a good shop knows what they are doing and they will be better than stock. mine were like 140 4 years ago

140? damn. the shop that painted my front bumper was only gonna charge me about a 100 to paint my center tailight piece, mirrors and door handles.
