Heres teh deal,

i am fiberglassing my interior and have painted a few thigns allready. The paint i have is a pearl blue with a very small metallic flake. From what i have painted, it doesnt not seem to give me the glossy finish i want. In order to get the gloss finish, do i need to clear coat it? thanks.

clear coat will make it a bit glossy.... but i found clearcoat gets sticky in the heat... which is the exact reason im stripping all my paint, and vinyling the whole interior... nice color btw!

Pretty sure you'll want to apply a quality clear to it all and maybe a couple coats at that. Then, a few days later, once you're certain its fully cured, you might buff it with some buffing compound (assuming there is such a thing). I used the swirl remover on my roof and got it to shine like glass until it got dusty again and someone set their drink up there. :P

a smooth glossy finish has a lot to do with your preparation....Sanding super smooth with like 300-600-1200 grit in stages makes the surface smooth to start off with. Clear coat does add that "gloss" your looking for but does get kinda sticky!!

rattle can or spray gun paint?

if it's spray gun clear coat it (PPG DUPONT) not auto-zone type crap... wet sand it and buff it...

the clear that I have isn't sticky.... it is until it cures.

Also not only that but it sounds like you used it out of a spray can. If so, I wouldnt spray over it with clear for atleast a couple months maybe between 3-6. Paint that you dont mix with a catalyst needs time to breath and be in the sun and cure totally. Then I would go over top of it with a high quality clearcoat. But like they said it well get sticky when its humid.

Edit: now that i look at the picture it doesnt appear to be out of a spray can so did you mix it with a catalyst? if you did just go buy some automotive clear coat that you would get for the outside body, that wont get stick.

yeah, it is mixed paint that i use an airbrush with. I was looking to just grab a pint or so of clear coat.

I bought some clear coating shit from some weird arts store...its thriple thick glass coat clear coat or something. Its great, doesn't get sticky, but if you use too much it might chip or crack..its the shit.
