I went in to change the little bulb that lights up the ring around the ignition...I was going to put a blue LED/330 Ohm resistor in, but once I had it ready to go in...I spliced one end together/soldered, and touched the other end.."Spark"...now the light for that ring doesn't work??? I hooked it back up normally with a normal bulb and it just doesn't work. I tried another bulb, and it still doesn't work. (bulbs work o.k. when tried in ashtray socket)Every fuse in my car is good...What could have happened? Any ideas? Thanks in advance! ...BTW: All other lighting in my car still works except AC which has been out.

prolly blew a fuse... did you check if there's still power flowing through those wires? if not then prolly a fuse is blown.

yes, check all fuses, even under the hood. if there are no ones blown near the driver kick panel go searching in the one under the hood. does anything else not work? like radio/interior lighting?

Doesn't that light shut off after a few seconds? Try closing and reopening the door imo. :P

tried that with the door...didn't work. Thanks for the input everyone, but fuses are all o.k. I'll have to get back in there and check to see if its still getting voltage.

could I have shorted something out that doesn't have a fuse? AC control bulb isn't working either, same condition. tried good bulbs in both, and they still don't work. Can I tap into another power line for the cig lighter and connect them that way if all else fails?

you could re-run power wires into the cig. lighter ring if you wanted to, that would work fine. I am not sure what guage the wiring is, but you may have fried the power wire if you shorted it.

Disconnect the battery before you start messing around with lighting and such :nono

As for the rest of you that said to check the fuses and such, pay attention- he said they were all fine and that the rest of the interior lights worked (save AC). The ignition ring is not on its own fuse...if the interior lighting circuit was blown none of them would work.

it might be on another circuit and solder onto a board or something and it could have fried that. especially if there are resistors or something in where ever that power wire is hooked to.

WOOHOO! I figured it out. This seems kind of dumb, but here goes. I checked the voltage at the connector(green/black)before the red wires and bulb. 11.71v, ok....checked continuity on bulb harness wires...good, O.K....put bulb in, nothing...put new bulb in, nothing...hmmmmm. pushed bulb in really hard...It works!..??????

lol ya i know but just from what he described that's what sounds the most logical... sometimes stuff is fused weird too (like certain circuits aren't grouped on the fuse you'd think they'd be). but i guess if every single fuse in the car is good then it's not that :P

thus begins the fun of tracing wires. bust out your DMM and check voltage at the ring. if there's none there start tracing the wires back.. if it's not a blown fuse and it's actually a shorted wire somewhere you'll wanna find it and fix it even if you COULD jsut tap for power elsewhere.
