65359, carbon fiber hood people Posted by coppereclipse95, Jan-18-04 02:56 AM
I was just reading Dualgen2's reply on here about carbon fiber hoods. He said that his hood cracks due to winter. Is this true? Does anyone else's hood have cracks caused by cold weather/any condition? I just put cf hood 2months ago and if this is true, i sure don't want my hood to crack. curious...

Last winter when my car sat outside the CF hood did not crack. That was even with 2 feet of snow on top of the car.

Eh, I never heard of it before, which is why I left mine on. But, Carbon fiber you must remember is the same thing as fiberglass almost, it uses fiberglass resin, so I didnt think it would crack?

Woops started a separate post and didn't even notice this one. I believe the deal w/ my hood was because I am turbo and it gets sooo hot underneath my hood but when the car is off it gets really cold and this process happening over and over again would cause it to crack. It sucks and I would advise people to take their hoods off during the winter, especially if you get cold winter near you and/or you under hood temps get really hot from being turbo. -Dave

From what I see on your sigs, I've noticed the ones who said craking are turboed. So, I guess like ^^^ said the temp change from turbo heat vs. outside temp causes to crack easier. Does this happen during winter only? or summer? or all year long?
Dualgen2>> How does it crack and where? you got any pics of them?

I wish my stock hood would have survived my wreck last year because the cracking is starting to look bad on my cf one.

Our C/F hood comes off for winter for one reason... just in case the car gets into a accident. If something were to happen, like Stef slid into a car, then we would like to at least have the hood and the wheels to sell to get the car fixed. No sence in fucking up things that can be sold for good $$$... that, and who in the hell needs to have a nice looking car in the winter imo???

I just dug my car out of the snow the other day and no cracks as far as I can see on my hood. Although the weight of the snow on my front end popped a bolt out of the right side of my front end :(
