hey guys i was on another car board and they are looking to change the color of their clocks. One member said he got some gel filters (looks like colored cellophane) from here: http://www.studiodepot.com/store/index.cgi?cmd=search&value=lee+gel+filter+sheet&field=name and the result was good. Do you think this would work for us? I want to change the ugly colors, and this is only $8. What do you all think?

haha, why didnt i think of this before? we constantly use gels in photography to alter light colors. it would still require sanding the backs of the gauge faces, but thats it, just slip a gel over the diffuser and it would certainly work

EDIT: dont try and use cellphane cuz im more than sure it will melt over time. whats needed is photo grade gells....those can withstand direct contact from our strobes for several minutes...and thats hotter than the inside of the gauge cluster would ever be

Will this just work for the gauges, or can we make it work for the other stuff like the ac controls, cruise switch, and the other stuff like that.

LEDs will look a shiz load better than gels imo. Gels will be dim and off blue, meanwhile the LED's are bright sharp blue. More close to the VW interior.

Its worth the extra money for LEDs to do it right the first time (less effort, better look).

i agree the LEDs will give you a brighter and more true blue then a slip on cover.
