64957, Does ur car has those egg shell cracks on the paint? (Pic inside) Posted by Will, Jan-12-04 09:29 AM
This is looking worse and worse. I usually only see cracks like that on a 10+ yr old car. I wonder if it's cuz the shitty paintjob from Mitsubishi. Do any of u guys get that on ur roof?

Before I had my car repainted, yes my black 97 had those. I didn't have my front bumper repainted and it has that as well atm. But it's low to the ground and no one ever notices.

Its the clear coat. You can use a high speed buffer and turtle wax brand Rubbing Compund to get that off. After buffing it with rubbing compound, buff it with car polish. It should be out by then. Then put a coat of wax over it. And it should all be good!

holy shit, and thats a 99. sorry guys but im throughly convinced that 95-96 were the best built/painted/etc. my paint (aside from chips and dings) is just as flawless as the day it was off the showroom floor. no peeling, cracks, or bubbles caused from weathering. my brothers 99 rs has rust everywhere in the engine bay, the paint is shoddy, poor crafstmanship imo. makes me glad i own an older model.

Yup.. before the paintjob.. parts of my black paint looked like that. Try what ^^^ said with the buffing. Black paint is nice but its so damn hard to keep clean.

My gsx doesn't look like that, and the 1g's don't even have a clearcoat.

My car is a 99 and it just started looking like that on the roof a month ago.But it could be from this damn Arizona sun.

my 98 has signs of rust in the engine bay. i will probly have it fixed (by fixed i mean cut out and new metal welded in) when i pull the engine. i am sure the body shop will LOVE pushing my car around. :-)

My black 98 GS is doing the same thing, it sucks. If any one has any has any success in getting rid of it, do a right up. I haven't had any luck using rubbing compound.

I did have luck using my method of a high speed buffer with rubbing compund, then buffing with polish, then hand wax it.

My fenders had that until I took a buffer to them. I used polishing compound (not rubbing compound) and then put about 5-6 coats of regular turtle wax. The paint looks good as new, but I'm sure I have to keep the wax up or the paint will start to look like ass again.

Don't use a high speed buffer unless you know what the hell you are doing IMO. I see bad shit happen all the time with them in the wrong hands. In the hands of a professional, however, the rotary buffer can achieve perfection.

Looks like it's a common prob on dark colored 2G especially the black ones. I forgot to mention I also have this palm-size spot on the hood where the paint is fading badly, not sure if it's also due to the wonderful paintjob from Mitsubishi.
How much do u guys think painting the roof/hood would cost me?

Like I said, use a high speed buffer with rubbing compound, then use it with car polish. Then put a hand layed layer of wax on it. I had the same problem on my Camaro. I asked an expert painter and he showed me how to do it and it worked!
