I am planning on getting a turbo wing put on my car within the month or probably next after the tax return.. My problem is I have heard rumors about this not being street legal because the models that came without have the 3rd brake light in the wing not on the back of the hatch. So my problem is I need to take a road test for my license in April with my car, and I don't want them to say.. "You dont have a 3rd brake light, your car is not street legal therefore you can not test in this vehicle and you can not get your license." Will this be an issue? Can I buy the 3rd brake light that sits in the back of the hatch somwhere else? Please help guys

yes, you can buy the third brake light. if it comes down to it...go to satan. but there are lots of places online where you can buy it. after i get out of the shower, i'll try and find some sites for you:thumbsup

I took my 3rd brake light out completely, and it went through inspection NO PROBLEM...I guess if its not there...it doesn't matter if it works or not..lol. Just my .02

I dont have one and havent had any problems.

you guys got lucky! my shop wouldn't install the wing if i didn't get the third brake light. also, when i got my car inspected this year, they made a point to check for a third brake light. i would suggest getting it just to be safe

just put in 97,98, or 99 for the year, mitsu eclipse, and then choose third brake light from the list of parts...that will bring up a bunch of parts for you....take a look through and maybe you'll find what you need. and like i said, if it comes down to it...go to your local dealership and get one through them

Thanks eclipse_gs_1512! I looked at that car-parts.com site and they have them, nothing local tho in Jersey. I am going to try with dsmtrader and see if I get any replies because I want to get something with some pictures so I kno its exactly what I need. Also might try talking to satan about geting one, im not gonna bend over for them if the price is to expensive. I'll keep an eye out. I am not sure why you think it is illegal to drive without a third brake light. Who ever told you that? How many vehicles out there do NOT have one? Two brake lights is enough.

I know most trucks are SUPPOSED To have them, but then again then again, their lights arent near as BIG as the eclipse's tails

Depends on your state and what year your vehicle is. If your vehicle was OEM with a third brake light you HAVE to have it to pass inspection.

I put a turbo wing on my rs myslef. there is a thrid brake light on the hatch window and I have no problems. what type is your eclipse?

My Eclipse is the gs, the third brake light is built into my low profile wing which is coming off when I put the new wing on.. So I will have no third brake light unless I can find one to put on the back windshield.

I brought the third brake light (the one with the turbo spoiler) on here because I too installed a turbo wing. But for months I made my own third brake light fort. I took out the led brake light from out 3 peice oem spoiler, then I merely extended the wire. Then I place the bar of leds at the top of the watch and nudged it against the plastic panels. I rode for a good six months like that. The led is perfect–it showed through my dark tint perfectly, especially during the night. Just something to consider while looking for that 3rd brake light.

I think I have a deal with someone now on buying one for $20. Now my only thing is finding out how much its gonna cost to get the wing installed and painted along with all the old holes covered up.

expect anywhere from 200 to 1000 depending on where you live and what shop you take it to. it cost me an even thousand to have mine done. but i overpaid for the work they did:(

I will pay $500 to get it done.. I don't want to get raped on this.. If its gonna be $1000 I mid as well get some new side skirts or something and get them painted

yeah, looking back now...i shouldn't have just accepted the price they quoted me. go somewhere else if you get places that quote you something like a thousand bucks

I really can't wait until I get this wing put on :) Fuck metal wings and shit.. Some do look nice.. But you have to appreciate how sexy our cars look stock and dropped on bigger rims and some tints. I love our cars :)
