i was reading a post on another forum, and a guy said he got rearended and his seats bent backwards 30 degrees, fucking up his neck and back....

that really made me think twice about getting tenzo or DAD seats, as im sure saftey is not in mind when they are designed...the only seats i could find saftey ratings on were sparcos...

does anyone know about the saftey of corbeau, tenzo, or dad?

the back rest bent.... he didnt specify which way... im asuming that since he got hit from the rear that the seat bent towards the ass end of the car..

bending either way would fuck you up pretty bad

Hmmm.... I know someone who got rear ended by a drunk driver, his Integra flipped several times on the side of the mountain, and saved his life and his wife. He had Tenzo seats and a racing harness. I don't know what to tell you though. :shrug If it is a hard ass crash, sometimes shit will be broken, not matter what safety stuff you've got. You can always upgrade to leathers. That's what I'd doing anyway since racing seats don't match :) (I'm a stickler for perfection).

Do some checking, I am not sure what safety ratings you looked at, but I believe that the only seats that are safety rated for racing are the non-reclinable. The magazine article discusses the homologation, ie safety rating. The main rating type is FIA, which seems to be the standard for race use. Reclinable seats are not accepted in this rating system though. Make sure you are comparing reclinable seats safety ratings, if there is such a thing.

Sparco's and Corbeau are for sure approved. I don't think Tenzo is, but they are made better than most others. I read an article about this in one of NOPI's mags they were handing out at a show. It said that the approveal (sp) has to do with the locking system for the back. To be approved it needs to have a double locking system and most of the cheap seats are only single locking. After thinking about it that's the difference in the pricing of the seats. I was all ready to buy some dad's or r-1's and save a few bucks but after giving it some thought I'd feel safer in a better seat. You never know what's gonna happen. And I only drive my car a couple hundred miles a year, if I had to drive it everyday there's no way I do it in a seat that could break me in half any easier.

They do lock on both sides. That cable in that pic is the linkage for the lock on the other side.

I thought you meant the sliders. The little hinge on the opposite side of the reclining hinge is that safety feature that prevents seat collapse due to a rear impact.

i guess tenzos dont have that.. doh..

so untill i can afford some corbeau's i said fuck it and just bought seat covers lol...the possibility of my seat giving out in a crash just isnt wroth it.

canvas, & padded... custom stiched, so they should fit alot better than those univeral ones...

Since your so concerned about safety anyway, why don't you just get some Tenzo's and a 6 point roll cage. The cage would keep your seats from going backwards and your harnesses keep you from goin forward. Fuckit, thats what I plan on doing. Also, your more protected if your shit decides to flip on you.

Cool. I just can't bring myself to throw down $700 for a seat. I still don't see how both sliders locking are gonna make it any safer.

I don't know for sure but after the money I paid for my fuggin seats they better be bullet proof
