IMO you need to get a cover of some sort, maybe of plastic or CF to hide that when your not in the car. i could just picture someone walking by and smashing your window for that. but then again, i dont know what your parking situation is (open or garaged?)...but just a suggestion. otherwise very bad ass looking :bowdown

what LCD screen is that? VGA? or NTSC? It looks touchscreen?
And what PC/case/mobo/PSU is that that allowed you to mount it in the DIN? Where's the power supply?
And where is it mounted now after you put the screen in the DIN?

64504, RE: new car computer pics Posted by siueclipse, Jan-05-04 01:21 PM
the computer is now under my driver's seat. i reach down, hit the dvd eject button and i can see it come out under my seat. i do wish it was more available to the driveer, however... i have a wireless connection to my home based network and i just transfer newly created mp3s to the computer via wireless.
there is no need for dvd playing either because i rip all my dvd's to divx and transfer them over the wireless as well to the computer.
im glad you guys like it. did anyone watch the video of my wideband setup working?

My god that is so sick, if i had the cash i'd be on it in a second. I could be totally wrong, but could you hook up a notebook computer to the screen for the same concept?
|
64525, RE: new car computer pics Posted by siueclipse, Jan-05-04 04:34 PM
you could but thats just defeats the purpose of having this setup in the car in the first place. also.. for what you spend on a decent laptop.. you could have this.

hey how do you like that Earthmate GPS unit? I am really thinking of buying one for my laptop this week since now I can get it a little cheaper at work.
Let me get this straight... It does not require an internet connection to download your maps.
It is a free GPS service? (Well of course after you pay the 129 dollars)
Is it voice activated? And does it give voice commands? E.G. Turn left, turn right?
How much did you pay? I can maybe get $20 off the retail price of this using my discount but maybe you know of a better place?
Thanks!!

I saw the video man that is very awesome. Before I bought my car my life was nothign but computers so I am totally fascinated in this. I don't have the money for one unfortunatley, but this is deffintley something I will look into in the future when I finish up some of my other stuff I want done with the car. Who makes that touchscreen and how much do those run for? Major props to you man, and I hope that you sell alot.

i like it a lot. aquires my position very quickly.. usually under 30 seconds. there is no subscription. the only thing with it is.. you need to copy the second cd to your hard drive and aim the map files to that directory where you save the maps. youll see, its easy to do. you dont need an internet connection for it. it is voice activtivated and does talk to you. i get it for 96 bux since im a dealer.

SO what kind of computer is it? Did you build it? Where did you find the parts? I've been playing with that idea for awhile now, but I haven't found a case to my liking yet to get started. Let me know man. I gotta do this, now that I've actually seen it.

64593, RE: new car computer pics Posted by siueclipse, Jan-06-04 04:21 PM

you still running the 1ghz epia? I am planning on upgrading mine when they come out with something faster. I have the 800mhz and the 200mhz difference doesn't seem worth the cost. Also, are you using yours for any kind of datalogging?
|
64601, RE: new car computer pics Posted by siueclipse, Jan-06-04 06:39 PM
i have a wideband / datalogging setup that i use with it. works very nicely. i sell those as a seperate package or with the computer.

I sent you an email this morning, but I haven't heard from you yet. Could you let me know what kind of a discount you are offering. I would really like one of these units, but I don't know if I can justify spending that much on one right now.
Keep me posted,
Andy
