64202, half blitz side skirts installation questions!
Posted by 95ESi, Dec-30-03 09:42 AM
How much did it cost you to put on half blitz side skirts (the one with a duct that is same height as stock side skirts)?

In order for it to go on right, a big hole for the air duct/grill needs to be cut from the bottom of the quarter fender. Is that right?

Or is it supposed to go on like this? (Kinda just try to bend it on to the body)

Of course, it depends on how the skirts are moulded and the quality of the replica. I think have the skirts similar to vis racing though (the grill+ducts stick further in)

Yeah, that red talon has some crappy replica sideskirts that some local fiberglass shop makes. www.kcaero.com

Where did you get your sideskirts? My side skirts are from Versus Motorsports. Mine looks like yours (the grill is more inset). Especially since my fender needs to be dented or holes cut for the grill...

Do you have any pictures of your side skirts at different angles? Side view?

Now my other question is how do you correctly install these skirts? My bodyshop is wanting to cut holes and make the side skirts more flush with the body of the car. Yours line up, but is your skirts installed so that it overlaps onto the door sills? That's what my body shop wants to do...so I'm not sure...

I notice yours protudes out a bit? Is that how it should be?

I test fit(didn't install, just held them against the car where they would be if installed)a set of VIS skirts wiht the low vent and i dont think you'd need to dent or cut anything on the fender... I would just make sure they had the mesh/grille on 'em. Yours must be some replica brand because the VIS I was gonna buy would have fit up PERFECTLY with no denting or cutting of the fenders...same goes for the regular style blitz and most other kits with 'vents' like that as well...

Actualy I just double checked, my half blitz side skirts are from Versus Motorsports.

I called around some local custom body shops and they told me that with real low blitz skirts / exact replicas, you will need to cut out holes in the rear quarter fenders for the mesh grill/vents.

Is this something worthwhile to do?

Has anyone installed any skirts this way?

Don't permanently cut your car just to make vents. You'll regret it down the road. My VIS blitz type 2 sides didn't need any cutting of the car. It's supposed to line up like the stock skirts. Here's a pic. They may not line up perfectly, but close enough. I used black vinyl on the car so that the blue paint on the car wouldn't show through the vents. I took off the mesh grills, but you can also use black mesh grills (mine came with them).

So I guess it's probably better if I modify the skirt and just get rid of the grill/mesh and shave the skirt down to fit...

But should I get it moulded? Or don't bother, and just screw it on and also glue it?

My skirt lines up with the lines on the car, but the angles on the corners aren't exactly 90degrees square. Do they heat it up and bend it into shape or something?

EclipseMan1999: nice car! are your skirts moulded or just screwed on?

What's black vinyl?

Sorry for so many questions...just want to make my car look right!

1)Modifying a fiberglass skirt would be better than the modifying the metal on the car(think: what would cost me more if wanted to do something different later?)

2)If they are the low style there is not need to mold it, it lines up with the line in the door, like a stock side skirt, I think molding it would be useless and look kinda odd...

3) the corners dont have to be 90 degrees square(although it depends on what corners your talking about I guess)... and since you said you had fiberglass, i'm sure you co mention it to the bodyshop and they could fix that before they paint it...shouldnt cost much more, if aything....

4) Yes, that's a nice car..I was originally thinking of painting my Flash Effect Blue Pearl(3G Eclipse color) but now I'm thinking of just leaving it black and throwing some blue metallic pearl over it....black always looks so nice, right EclipseMan1999 ? :)

5) Black Vinyl = sticker.... It's the material alot of rice boys use for those massive (and usually ugly) side graphics, window banners, etc...it's also used for most pinstripes and racing stripes... You can get it from just about any sign shop, plain back shouldnt cost you that much $5/ft or so I guess, probably less....I wont need it, I have a black car :D Although at this point i'm thinking of getting the Buddy Club 2 skirts as opposed to the Blitz low style I originally was gonna get....

I got my sideskirts from versus motorsports here in arizona.I had them molded to the body and they only had to make a little dent in the rear fender in order for the grill to fit in.I think the skirts with grill look alot better. Here are some more pics.

I like the drift style...mainly because it's different..which is why I like the Buddy Club 2 kit so much...If I could find some OEM style that were as low as most of the bodykit sides I'd get those...

Mine came from Versus Motorsports too. How small of a dent did it require?

Can you get some close up shots? I want to take a look at how much a difference moulding would make...(like where was it moulded)

Right now I can see that you don't have any visible screws to attach the skirts to the wheel wells..

And I can't see that yours has a mesh/grill? How did you get that greyish color in the duct..

actually they are not molded on, but perfectly sanded to fit.. as for the mesh grill, the mesh grill is black, and i put a black vinyl sticker over the part where the grill cover so it would look clean.. thanks!

How is it attached? Glued on or screwed on? Don't see any screws..

Weren't there any gaps along the edges? I guess your sideskirts must have fit well?

actually the skirts are screwed on, the screw are small but very strong, two in the front, two on the rear, and two in the middle.. what i mean by the middle is there is a small piece of metal that i attaching the skirt to the actual body side cladding of the car.. just think of it as a bracket for the middle of the skirt, that way its not all flismy.. as for the gaps, there are none, i sanded it down to fit perfect, there might be a millimeter or two off, but very clean and good looking.. if you guys have any questions just ask me..

Did you have to heat and shape you skirts tofit or were all the corners nice 90 degrees?

i didnt have to heat anything.. suprising enough, these 61 dollar ebay skirts fit absolutly perfect after a lil sanding.. kinda strange.. :wary
and even worse, when i snapped my driver's side sideskirt in two pieces (damn curbs), when i repaired it, it looks better than the passenger side.. hmm... crazy i guess...
