Yup, you heard right. Bought the paint today, will finish sanding soon and tomorow or maybe the day after it goes into the booth and my conversion gets put on. Bout time eh? TIME FOR BEFORE AND AFTERS!!

I am oging with 350z daytona blue. and I forgot to say my turbo spoiler is goin on too! I am actually doing the engine bay tonight and sanding toinight too then outer body paint tomorrow. What sucks though is my camera is 10 miles of traffic away so I will only have after pics because I dont have that many pics of my car as it is now.

sup man, you still have stock body kit w/ the paint job? just checking to see how different our cars will be since my car is coming out of the shop on Friday painted the same color. On my car I have the R34 front w/ Blitz sides & rear (with the rear bumper cut on the passenger side for dual exhaust). they shaved the door handles. Removed the side moldings (since I have a talon) and filled the holes. Removed the talon high wing and filled the holes. Added a turbo wing. The side skirts are molded on. The only part of the car not being painted is under the hood. I'm waiting until I either decide to upgrade my motor, or until it blows to do that.

If hes painting just the top pieces of the engine bay, he dosnt necasarily have to use a paint booth. I've been to about 100 piant shops in my area looking for a good guy to spray the car and engine bay, theres not many of them! Some, thats SOME, shops are kept so clean you could lick off the floor, (no I wouldnt but for conversations purpose) and I'm serious about that. Maybe 2 out of the the 100 I went to since October were mint. Others arent as good... in this case (I'm not bashing) the sprayer may be that good at his work and feel comfortable doing outside a paint booth, then on the other hand, he may not and needed to get the car doesn, or the paintbooth was already occupied.
If he was that comfortable with you taking pictures of him, then he must know what hes doing. He knows that your smart... maybe bring it up to the painter and see what he says. Its YOUR car, you have a right to know. Want me to call him and ask. I'll lay down the law!!!

Only the engine bay is getting sprayed out of the booth. Also the bottom of the hood. He wast even going to do those parts, hes teaching me how to paint a little and hes just throwing those in so I dont care if that area isnt painted in a booth, hes a good guy just for doing that difficult area. Hell the whole thing including paint is running me $1600 because I know him. 4 coats of clear too. Aint bad if you ask me. We go to the booth wednesday.

EDIT: oh and he didnt even have to paint the hood cause I got a CF one I wa going to throw on but I'm thinking since he did it for no extra$ might as well keep the stock. Now... what to do with the CF?

I painted my car in my garage with the doors open... mine looks fine.

then again my neighbor was telling me exactly what to do, and how to do it (he used to paint cars for a living) and he mixed the PPG paint and clear so I wouldn't screw it up. Clear didn't lay down flat so we sprayed extra and i had to sand the whole car and my neighbor buffed it all for me.

$1700 isn't bad. for me, not including the $700 for paint, my neighbor told me that I got a $2000 paint job for free (quality wise)

Painting out of the booth is a really bad idea. Even in your house, there is tons of dust floating around. Any dust or even a fly landing on your freshly painted car will ruin it. But since you said you didn't really care about under the hood, it's no big deal. I've heard of shops taht don't even have a paint booth tho...

I'm not worried about it. Engine bay and hood are complete and dry and look damn good might I add. So the body was getting sprayed today so I couldnt be in there to take pics (and I just found my sony P10 5 megapixel cam too.) Clear goes on in a couple days, I wish I could post up a new thread for this next question, and i just might in the int/ext sec but d you guys think I should shave my antenna, its non power. I always listen to the radio and I know those antennas you stick to your glass work just fine but I REALLy dont feel like wiring anyhing anytime soon through the hatch lid, yuck. So what do you guys sugest. The guy will do it for free if I want it done. You know, weld the hole and cover it up/smooth it over. Any experience in this area?

When I first came up with the idea to do it it was when I removed the antenna to sand the body. I tried using the radio without the antenna w/ the hole still open and it worked fine.. but once they welded in a piece of metal to fill the hole it stopped working. What I did was just bend the metal bracket that holds the antenna assembly inside the car so that it points towards the passenger side instead of vertical, and re-attached the antenna, and it works fine. It's up to you, but my hole is all welded and bondo'd smooth and it looks pretty damn sweet. Good luck. My car will be out of the shop on Friday finished.
