Has anyone ever seen/tried/thought about cutting a hole in the "hood bump" to create a ram air effect. How much do you think this would cost? Whats involved? Thanks

LAST EDITED ON 02-Jul-01 AT 09:09 AM (PST)Heres Rick's (Raizin) eclipse. A cold-air intake would be better and hella cheaper anyway. But it sure looks cool.

Nice hood...is that two humps?
As for the ram air part, cutting a hole in our trademark humps wouldn't ram any air unless your air filter was right there. The hump was actually "functional" for the 4G63 (turbo and non turbo) Mitsu engine because the timing belt cover popped up so high, it wouldn't fit under a flat hood.
I've seen a 1G with a crescent like cut out on the hump. It was very sweet looking but it was only ramming air into the timing belt cover. It might help to cool the engine though .

someone should try to modify an air intake to go up to the hump when they do the hole in the hood, but of course you would still run into problems with water getting in when it's raining, but it wouldnt be like how the cai's have the water problem. i bet that would give some great cold air to help the engine, but im sure it's alot more expesive to get it all done.

There lots of very fast cars on this board. Mine is a stage one turbo and I am slow compared to some of these guys. But in a couple weeks the intercooler goes on and I run 7-8 psi...LOOK OUT!!!!!!!!!
