61647, Translucent Orange powder coat color... check it out...
Posted by SM_Polishing, Nov-09-03 03:27 PM
Hey everyone, my partner and I were playing around with a new translucent orange color (base coat "almost chrome", top coat "candy orange", makes for a "chrome orange" look) and a 2G, durango copper metallic(?), Eclipse drove by. I looked at the valve cover, then back at the Eclipse and realized its an almost dead on match... what do you guys think?

(Note: We were just testing on this valve cover, barely any prep work was done, hence the not exactly "perfect" coating and the letters not being sanded. A finished product would look better than that.)

Thanks,
Scott

Looks very nice :thumbsup I dont think i could have a copper valve cover in my engine bay... It would get dirty quick. I will take a gunmetal one though.

Guess it's not quite red enough to match up to the factory paint, huh? Anyways as for gunmetal... one of these?

Since I can see the intercooler peekin' out, I'm not sure if you turbo'ed the 420A or it was a factory 4G63, so I figured I'd post both...

Thanks for the compliments though...

Scott

John's car is sexy as hell imo. I've been after him to get a VC PC'd to match his exterior color, but he's chicken shit and won't do it. :P

Sure can. Just haven't bought any of the candy red powder yet. Just ordered some last night though, should be wed. or thurs. Maybe we can shoot something in that color to give you guys a taste then.

Just imagine the other two in a reddish tint and thats about what it will look like.

Yeah. It was gouged into the paint with a slotted screw driver. I don't tolerate my painted parts falling on a dirty floor. They must pay the penalty imo. :P

We could coat those parts for you, but you're correct... it would be a waste. They simply get too hot. You should look into ceramic coatings, you can get a lot of different basic colors and they will retain heat better. Thus more heat = more spool, so you're turbo will spool quicker and harder (slightly) and you'll keep the excess heat out of the rest of the engine bay to a degree.

The outside of the compressor housing itself will take powder nicely. Surface temps stay below 400*. Mine is coated red, and has not discolored - and it was done in July.

hmm.. interesting..
i just don't like how the exhaust manifold and hot side get all gross looking after awhile..
i know some people had mentioned some kinda paint they used that turned a bronze-ish color after awhile or something.
just wondering 'bout what kinda options there are

As of right now, our maximum wheel size is 16" and we don't do polished lips. Sorry.

Thanks,
Scott

PS- As for the gunmetal 420A picture, I believe there is one that I posted earlier in this thread...
