61203, Headlight Bulb Change (HELP) Posted by Phanatik, Oct-30-03 07:11 PM
I just tried to change my headlights and when I looked at it, I realized that there wasn't any room to stick my hand down to get my headlights out. Once I got the plastic cover off, there's a screw that keeps the bulb in place, and no way I could get a screwdriver in there to unscrew it. Am I missing something here? How do I do it? I know this must sound like the stupidest question, but I really can't change them. Please someone, help me out. Thanks a lot in advance.

if you have a 2g, just put your hand on that plug and twist it loose. it should pull out. no need for hand tools.

I don't know anything about a screw holding the bulb... If you do have a 2g like ^ said, the headlight bulbs are actually held in place with a v-shaped spring that pushes on the back part of the bulb when it is in place. Like you said, there is hardly any room to put your hand in to change the bulb (especially the low beams!), but be patient. I have scraped my knuckles many times changing these d*mn bulbs!lol Once you have the plastic cap off, stick your hand in there and feel around for the spring. It's about twice the thickness in diameter than a safety pin. Once you find it, gently push toward the front of the car with your finger and pull it away from the center of the bulb. There's a little lip that catches the end of the spring. Once that's done, pull the bulb out, replace (don't touch the bulb!!), and then make sure that both sides of the v part of the spring clear the back side of the bulb. Push the spring down onto the back of the bulb and hook it under the lip. That's it. Sorry for the long post!! Good luck!

I just changed my light bulb recently. I spent 30 mins on taking out and putting in the bulb in the first time. After you know the "trick", it is just a piece of cake.....
Here are some hints for GST 97:
For a 2G, 1. When you take out the dust cover, remember the way when you take it out, I tried spending 15 mins on putting it back.... sometimes can't pass through.......
2. press down and then move to the right to release the spring coil.
3. hold the spring coil as high as you can... with your left hand..... use you right hand to take out the bulb..... then, it will easily come out....
3. unplug and then plug in the new bulbs..... don't touch the tube.... put it back... hold the spring coil as high as you ca, the same as you took it out......... then, put the spring coil right in place....
You are all set then !:thumbsup
Actually, I just changed to HID lighting last week.....there are really no space to work on....... it took me a long time in wiring ! But, the outcome is very nice !:thumbsup
