58772, Do you have hazy headlights? *FIX* Posted by JWoodley, Oct-01-03 04:38 PM
Ok, I've read up on a lot of sites and many 1G and 95-96 guys get a nasty yellow fog on their headlights. Well, to get rid of this fog all you need is "Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish" which will cost you somewhere close to $4.29 including tax and some paper towels. Apply a little polish to the paper towel and rub in a circular motion. Voila! the haze is gone and the light is crystal clear again! I'll get you guys some before/after pics up sometime tonite. If anyone wants to host, hit me up. If not, I'll bum Cpt. Mykes bandwidth. :thumbsup

Are you sure that metal polish is safe on plastics? Will it damage it after the effect wears off? If you have a high speed buffer and know what you're doing, you can wet sand and polish it.

i'd say low speed would be safer for the inexperianced. i used (wet sanding) 1500 Grit sandpaper and then used the low speed buffer on them using 3M Finess-it finishing material (yes, i'm all for the 3M Finess-it finishing material even though it costs $40 a bottle)

Well it's worked for me. It didn't scratch them at all. I'm wondering if "Fast Orange" would've worked also, it has pumice stone in it which will help remove the oxidation, etc.. I can take the dremel to these later if the yellow comes back. Its been about 30 minutes and no sign of any yellow other than whats on the towels.

No problem. This is alot easier than sanding and only takes like 5 minutes. Maybe a mod could sticky this to be sure its easily available.

Bug and Tar remover works the same.
I almost guarantee you that you will have to touch up that light about once a month though with the Mothers polish. Because mine has to be done about once a month. Small price to pay to keep it looking like pee pee soaked.

im thinking anything with any type of abrasive in the polish/compound should work. maybe others can compare and see whats best. i might shoot a layer of clear coat on the lense. :thumbsup

My Headlights were hazy as fuck, and I went and bought the Mothers Mag/aluminum cleaner after reading it on this thread last night...got off work, tried it out. I was VERY pleased...cleaned it up nice and right. Think I will do it one more time today. Even though I read the downfall is you need to do it about every month or so... :thumbsup

ya, the mothers works great, but it WILL fog up again, fairly quickly. You'll just have to polish it back out.

Yeah, the MAG Polish is only temp.
The only way I know to keep them from re-hazing is to clear coat them after you polish them.
I got projectors because I got sick of that sh*t.
