I just got my car back friday from the shop and after a few days of light driving.. it's getting dusty. Also been picking up a few rock chips :o ;( x( so my question is, should I wash the car or wait a week or two? Also, I'm planning on waxing it in bout 3-4 weeks after the paint cures.. gonna put 4-5 layers of wax on. Is there a problem with puttin on so much wax? Lookin at the rock chips it seems like the clearcoat is real thin.. and I want to preserve the paint. Gonna use Meguaire's (sp) 3 step kit.

Does it matter how I wash it/dry it off also? Was thinking about dumping a bucket of carwash/water on and then rinsing off the same way and drying with an absorber.

Well yes you can wash the car. I would wait at least 2 months at LEAST to wax it. Thats what i was told with my other car

Meguirs actually makes a wax for newly painted cars...but I would still wait a little bit before you wax it.

my 2 months are finally almost up of waiting to wax etc. i've been washing it ever since the 1st month ended. dont get water on it and let it dry!!!!!! it leaves permanent spots in the clear coat, i had to get mine buffed 2 times cuz of water spots.

DO NOT WAX THE CAR FOR ATLEAST 2 MONTHS...waz makes the paint softer, then hardens on it... paint isn't completely hard for 2 months and making soft paint softer is asking for chips and worse

Yes, you can wash it. Just use quality car wash soap.

One question though, why are you going to put 4-5 layers of wax on the car? Just clean the car, use a clay bar to make the finish clean and smooth then use a polish like Meg's #7 or 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, the use a really good wax. Meg's Gold Class is good. There is something called p21s paste wax that owns all other waxes out there. Putting more than one layer of wax on will not neccessarily help in protecting the finish anymore than one coat will. You could use a sealant after the polish, such as Platinum UPP or Meg's Ultimate Paint Protection then top then top that with a nice carnuaba wax like Meg's #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax.

i just painted my car about a month ago....in the instructions it says to just wait a day before buffing it....24hrs thats it.... i dont think you need to wait 2months, but maybe a week or two

buffing it after painting is not what he talking about, you are talking about cutting and buffing the clear to remove orange peel which you need to do after it gets painted.
