I am seeking a lightweight hood for the HRC RS Turbo.

Ideally, it should be a stock replica. I am quite fond of the stock look. If this limits my choices too much, I can consider others.

I did a search and came up with info about CF (is this a source?) and Magnus. Anybody have any input as to these, or any others available? Anything regarding weight, fit, phone numbers / websites, etc. would be appreciated.

I seen a car that had a cf hood with our famous"hump" and he painted it the color of the car. I was looking at many places like fiber images, Hahn auto trends, nopi, carbonfiberhoods.com, and several other places price varies and so does quality. Make sure you ask alot of questions....

1. Are hood pins required? Does the hood use the factory latch?
2. Is it clear coated? Or is it just a gel coat buffed to a shine? Does the hood have UV protection?
3. What does it weigh? What kind of materials are being used? Hand laid? Rough edges? or smooth?
4. Does it have a socket for the hood support?
5. How does the hood handle high speed pressure?
6. Windshield washer holes?

Is it a good idea getting a really light weight hood for a FWD? I would think that the more weight over the front tires would mean more traction. Of course saving weight is the key to quicker times, but so is hooking up at the line.

I saw something a while ago. Looked very close to stock but had a vent on the drivers side, Which I would think would be very good for pulling air into the location you have your filter at. I'll see if I can find it again.

Im here for Chicago also, we will be placing an order on carbon fiber hoods soon (exact replica of the stock hood, hump and all).
And they are extremly light...(@7-9 lbs) If you are going to Hot import nights on June 30th look for our Display (Vector Racing) we have an RS with a carbon fiber hood, stop in check it out. You wouldn't belive how light it is.

Hey Bill and anyone else considering aftermarket carbon fiber or fiberglass hoods. Carbon fiber always requires hood pins no matter what anyone tells you. Even though they use the stock latch, it can rip out at high speeds which is definitely not good. I know quite a few people that have had their's fly off on the freeway, including Anthony who used to be on the 2gnt board. So always get hood pins. Sparco ones are around 40 bucks or so.

I personally would buy a cf hood in person if at all possible. The hood can easily get damaged through shipping, and you can't see the quality til you get it. Also, if there is a problem, shipping it back will cost a fortune as well...
