i got a new paint job, still black, but they said no commercial washes or waxing for 1-2 months. It got rained on when i was out of town and the waterspots got permanently set in the clearcoat, i got it re done for free and now have gone 3 weeks w/o cleaning it and today i finaly washed t, i was scared to because i thought i'd fuck something up, but it shines like hell, but why can't i wax it?

i was told after my paint job that my car is to NEVER see wax on it evar. My paint is guaranteed for life he said, minus the normal front bumper scrapage of course. So ya I'm not allowed to wax my car period.

u gotta wait a month so the paint can cure before u wax.
damn myke, wish my paint were guaranteed for life. heh never heard of anyone saying not wax.. but hey, if it's guaranteed for life.. any chip or whatever u get.. take it back an demand a repaint haha :thumbsup

Wow never heard of the no wax thing. You're not supposed to wax for a month, but normally you can wash it after a few days. After a few days, you can touch it all you want and it should be dry enough to not show anything. I would wait a month and then wax just to be safe.

I was told not to wash or wax for a month. Lifetime paint is fucking sweet Myke.

what paint did they use myke...... i'v never heard of that before.... it takes about 3-4 weeks depending on how hot it is out for the paint to cure completly that is why they don't want you to wax it for at least a month. Wax only protects the paint that is why i don't understand why they told you (myke) that you can't wax it ever

When I got a new rear bumper cover put on by Satan after I was rear ended they said not to wax it for 2 weeks. I waited like a month though and they also said the paint is under warranty for life :)

I think he said it was a poly-urethane PPG with some sort of mixer in it that makes the clear real thick and look polished without a need for waxing. I can't wax it or it'll void the warranty he said because it could have an effect on the mixer that was used in the paint.

wax is to protect the car.. polish is to make it shiny.. but oh well, if he says lifetime guarantee.. and somethin happens.. w00t omghi2freerepaint! I'm gonna look into some sort of chip/scratch resistant additive that someoen said they can put into paint. Anyone know anything about that?

polishing is different, but ANY base/clear paintjob does not rquire wax! It offers no more gloss or protectorant values than the clear that is on it. Wax got famous b/c you had to use it on acrylic enamel paints to make it shine, as your car would fade you would wax it and it would shine again. The only good thing about wax on a base/clear paint is that it makes water bead up and I guess it could protect from a very light scratch. Like I said at the beginning, polishing w/ compound is different and is needed on clearcoat but not very often (usually after it cures to get rid of orange peel and car lots use it a lot to make the car shine better, however this thins the layer of clear on the car). Stuff like Mothers Quick Detail, and Wax as You Dry products are only oils (like armor all) for your paint, not wax.

its no problem washin a car after a few days, however as said above..no polish or rubbing allowed!! Best thing to do is to do a piantseal when its new and still has no oxidation or similar.

Yes Myke...it is coming on the new cars at extra cost. It behaves something like Teflon and is supposes protect your car against alot of nature's flaws. My g/f honda civic has the same kind of thing and they told here no waxing ever......

i just painted mine, used PPG Deltron, which is THE polyurithane enamel... also used PPG Concept clearcoat.

if the paint is clearcoated, you don't need wax, but then again, it won't hurt, AFTER A MONTH!!!

and for polish i've been using Meguiars Show Car Glaze, (step 7) new car glaze has an abrasive in it.

wax won't hurt it as long as you let the paint cure first. (and yes, hopefully i will have pics up by tonight, it depends on how long it takes walmart to make the photo cd.
