5404, If I need bumpers painted does the car have to stay at the shop
Posted by alexries, Jun-13-01 02:32 PM
When I get my body kit crap, I plan on installing it on my car first, to make sure everything fits and so I can drill all the necessary holes and shit. But I was wondering, can I just leave some part of my car at the shop(like 1 of the pieces of my 3-piece spoiler) and have them color match it to the parts they are painting?

I know I can't just give them a factory color code because my car was repainted at some time for some reason, so the factory color was that maroon/egg plant purple lookin' color, now it's REALLY dark purple-ish, almost looks black.

Oh and for the bodyshop gurus, I want to remove my 3-piece spoiler too, but when they repainted the car, I don't think they removed the 3 pieces of the spoiler. So if I remove the spoiler now, it will leave a lighter color underneath. Can the back of my hatch and rear fenders be sanded and repainted JUST in that area or do they have to repaint the entire hatch and rear fenders? I wouldn't have them weld the holes, but probably paint the heads of a few bolts and just put them through the holes and leave it at that. (I want the APR drag style spoiler :p)

um, dont paint bolts and stick them in the holes, thats some lowballin shit. you cant repaint one section though, they will have to repaint the entire fender and hatch. if your gonna paint some bolts and stick them in there youd be better off leaving the side pieces on the car.

Ok, ok. No bolts. Well I guess I'm better off getting a complete paintjob. I'm going with aftermarket front and rear bumpers, side skirts, z3 fenders, predator hood, and APR spoiler of some sort. So I'm going to NEEEED to paint the entire car except the roof and doors, but I will need have the door handles painted to match, can they paint that to match without painting the whole door?

You don't have to paint the bumpers on the car, but it is better to do that. If not, they need your gas cap to match the color right if they're professional. Else, no matter what, they probably won't be able to match it perfect.

About repainting. If you are just shaving the holes left by the wing, they don't hate to repaint that whole area. However, they DO have to sand down the entire piece (whole rear quarter panel) and then if they are good painters, they can blend it in so they don't have to actually repaint the whole piece. This makes it so it blends in better (otherwise if you repaint the whole quarter panel it probably won't mntch perfect). However, after blending, they do have to clear coat the entire quarter panel. What this comes down to is saving you a bit of money in paint, and also looking better, "if" they can blend it. Most body shops will say the whole piece has to be painted, probably because they aren't good at blending. Try to fina shop that can blend it for you...good luck

Hey eclipse804, you're always recommending "your shop" or someones shop. Are you in SoCal?

Yeah go to T&L (where Eclipse 804 works). They are in El Monte and you are in Orange, right? What body kit are you going to get. And are you going to keep it that maroon color or paint it something different.

Well I want to get the Blitz kit but everyones got it (still my first choice though although it's a close tie with the red one below). The thing is, it's just about the only kit I like with the exception of these ones, but none of the reputable (good fitting kit places) sell them (that I've seen) << http://www.hanautotrends.com/carpics/mitsubishi/eclipse/95-99MIE/pages/IMAGE%2012806.htm >>

And this one, I think JTautostyle sells this right? << http://www.hanautotrends.com/carpics/mitsubishi/eclipse/95-99MIE/pages/IMAGE%2012822.htm >>

Also I'm concerned about the removal of the rebar. There's got to be something in my insurance that says I can't modify or remove any safety equipment. Anyone know for sure. I guess I'll give them a call. I'd like a kit that allows me to leave the rebar on, like this one (it's just I don't really like it) << http://www.hanautotrends.com/carpics/mitsubishi/eclipse/95-99MIE/pages/IMAGE%2012834.htm >>

Help...

Hey alexries, I didn't know you were in socal. You can come down to the shop and meet me there, and I can show you around. You can check out some of the current work going on, and see if you want a paint job. They do some of the best paint around, using all factory PPG paint, any custom color, and I can get the custom pearl thrown in for free. Just let me know, you can email me at eclipse804@hotmail.com if you like. Also, as far as I know, the blitz front is the only one that can fit the front bar. Maybe I got lucky with the mold I got, because other people said they had to remove it?

Yup, we're planning to start the install at about 1 pm at T&L. Come down, and alexries, email me if you wanna come too. Ian, since you followed me last time, do you think you remember how to get there. The only tricky part is that long driveway to turn into. If you can, get there anytime after 2 pm and we should be there for sure. The guy is coming up from SD to help me...
