53024, New owner! A few questions
Posted by Renegade Retard, Jul-17-03 12:23 PM
Hi folks! I just purchased my 95 GST last week and love it! I just stumbled across this forum today and it looks great. Planning on visiting on a regular basis. I do have two questions....

1. Where's the best place to purchase replacement door handles? This was the only thing wrong with the car when I bought it. I need a driver's side exterior handle. I would prefer it to be painted already (dark green), since I've never tried painting such a thing before. Also, it has power locks, so I don't know if that makes a differnece or not.

2. The only imperfections I can find in the paint is on the front bumper from typical road debris. Any tips on getting these out? Can I simply buff them out?

Thanks for your help. I look forward to visiting here more often.

ahahahaha door handles. they ALWAYS break on our cars. its a curse on this forum, when one door handle breaks like 10 more will in the next week. try www.dsmtrader.com

and about the chips, just deal with it. if you really want then out, get your front bumper repainted.:)

sorry, the only place you'll probably have any luck finding them will be satan (local mitsu dealer) They come black and you'll have to have a body shop paint them if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.
Also, since you have a GST, check out the 1G/4G63 section. It's devoted to the factory turbo cars.
And Welcome to the board! :thumbsup

Thanks pal, for the info and the link.

If I need to order a black handle, do you or anyone else have any tips on painting it? I just don't want it to look crappy, and I don't want to spend a small fortune for a body shop to paint it.

hey, i would just try a junkyard...you will probably have to remove them and install yourself (so that is up to you). I don't know if you were going to have someone do it or not. And about the paint...if you have the same dk green as mine (it almost looks black-not the monarch green) then you will probably have to go to the dealer or a paint shop for the color...I bought some that says it is my color-at a local auto store-and it wasn't...i even tried using black primer instead of grey and still couldnt get it dark enough. Just letting you know cuz i painted my mirrors cuz they started chipping and now they look ridiculous!! x( oh well...god luck anyway...anna

Yeah, I'm in the DFW area. Any experience at painting?

Another question - does the door handle matter if it's manual or power locks?

Call your local mitsu dealer and talk to the service manager. Give him your vin# and tell him to see if there are any recalls that need to be done. The ball joint is the major one, but there may be others for your car.
