I have a 95 GS, I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can paint my door panels with Krylon Fusion? I think they are part plastic, part vinyl with the cloth in the middle. Obviously, I'm not going to paint the cloth. I just thought I'd post and see if anyone has tried it before I rip my doors apart and start painting.

i painted my doors with duplicolor. i took the door off and took off some other pieces of the door as well to paint a different color. i did mine in dark blue and silver. the door was dark blue so was the oval piece with where the door handle goes. the other piece was silver. i just used duplicolor and it turned out great.

I also used Duplicolor paint....It turned out really good..

You do know I'm talking about the entire door panel right, not just the small pieces. There was a guy who did his doors red and black not too long ago, looked really sweet. Actually his whole dash was done. If anyone happens to know where that post it, put the link here.

do NOT paint the vinyl parts with the fusion. It will stay "sticky" as if it isn't dried. But i loved the way it worked on everything else. Hope this helps ya

Yes, that was the post I was looking for, thanks. Also, that guy said he used Fusion for all the black but he has an RS. Are the door panels on an RS all plastic or what? I didnt see the cloth like the GS has so I'm assuming its all plastic. Oh, one more thing. What do you think I should use on my doors then? I'm not sure if they are actual vinyl, I was just taking a guess. If so I think they sell vinyl spray around here somewhere.

Yes it is a brand of paint....Autozone carries it....Im not sure if it will work for vinyl or not.....couldnt you just buy new vinyl and rewrap it all??....I'm not sure if that would work...just a suggestion...Sorry I can't help ya to much..

I've heard nothing but good things about SEM. It's a couple bucks more expensive that Duplicolor but I've never heard anyone have problems with it.

Well, I started painting my doors tonight. I'll throw up some pics tomorrow when I get some good light. I'm wanting to match everything in my interior. How would I go about painting the dash? I've seen people like Farmdogg have it done but I'm not sure if they sprayed it themselves or had it done professionally. If someone has taken out their dash and have any pics of the progress help me out. I really want to do it but I dont want to take on too big of a project.

Actually I was just thinking, it would probably be easier just to buy a black dash. Then again, I'd still have to take mine out. Dammit, I dont know...

well i can tell you i did mine myself but i left it in the car. i wouldnt recommend this though because its hard to get the paint in that little area by the vents near the window.

I painted a dash in the car and it wasn't fun. We used really good paint (it was $20 a can) but we didnt' get even spray so it didn't look great near the windshield. When I do mine I'm going to take the dash out and do it right. Go to a junk yard and buy a black dash... paint it to the shade of black that you want and then put it in. You could sell yours then or keep it to put in if you go back to stock. I had directions to remove a dash but I can't find them now.. it's pretty easy to do just take your time and go piece by piece. Get containers to hold the screws in, making sure you know which ones go back where. Disconnect the battery so you don't have any airbags in your face. Good luck man, hope it turns out well.

Well, I thought I would have some pics of my doors today but I'm still working on the first one. I painted all the vinyl last night and this morning, so this afternoon I go to tape off the vinyl to paint the plastic at the bottom, and the masking tape just rips off all the new paint!}( Oh damn was I pissed. Finally I said to hell with it and just went ahead and painted the bottom letting it overspray onto the vinyl.

So, after painting all the plastic, I try to mask it off to paint the overspray and the damn masking tape rips the paint off the plastic! This is being WAY to much of a pain in the ass than it should be. I wish I could take it all the way apart, but I'd have to break my door. I have an idea I'm going to try tomorrow though, I'll let you know how it ends up. Sorry for the novel.

Dude, you're trying way too hard and going wayy to fast. Here's what I learned


Paint it with Krylon Fusion.....Do one mist coat, wait fifteen minutes, do a second mist coat, wait fifteen minutes, do a full coat, wait thirty minutes, then do two more heavy full coats. NOW LET THAT BITCH SIT OVERNIGHT.

If you don't let it cure overnight it will rip the paint off the plastic. Sorry, Fusion wasn't the cure all answer we were all looking for. I've had just the same results from Duplicolor. I have a couple of scratchs and rubs (which fusion wasn't supposed to do) so now I'm just gonna buy vinyl and vinyl wrap the fuck out of everything.

I finally finished the first door. I think it turned out great. Here are a couple pics.
