52652, People who have ordered CF Hoods from VIS........ Posted by eclipse_gs_1512, Jul-13-03 06:33 AM
Sorry for yet another CF hood question but I don't have time today to do any research and I wanna order my hood tomorrow...so I kinda need some quick answers.
Did the hood come with all the hardware you need to get it installed?
How was the fitment?
And would you recommend buying from VIS?
thanks in advance!!! dave

To install the hood all you have to do is take out 4 screws that hold your hood on, then install the VIS hood with them.
I highly recommend VIS, and the fitment is great.
I bought mine from www.trixracing.com and they were very quick with shipment.

Yea dude, VIS all the way, even over fiber images, all my friends love the quality of my VIS hood. Fitment was great, I barely even had to adjust it.

I can see, from your sigs, that most of you guys are using hood pins, are all of you using them? Anyone not using them? Curious if you can go without them...:wary

fuck hood pins. If the hood has no underside frame to it and it's all flimsy- YES, without a doubt, use pins. My hood is fully glassed underneath and the latch is strong. Lots of people tell me I'm crazy. Oh well, I get that with a lot of things I do. I won't run pins unless the hood seems to be getting weak. But, places do always say to run pins. So, I guess I'm asking for it or whatever. :wary

I loved my VIS hood when I had it, but it flew up because I don't have a factory latch anymore and I forgot to lock the hoodpins. Hoodpins are great until you don't have them latched.

My VIS hood is awesome. No fitment problems, and shipping was relatively quick. And I use the stock latch, no hoodpins.
And it's for sale. I bought the Invader hood, so my OEM Vis CF hood is for sale.

I wouldn't drive around with mine without hoodpins. I don't feel like installing another windshield in my car.

I have a theory on the invader hood. Air can't get trapped under it as easily b/c the vent. I know if you didn't latch it, it would probably fly up b/c it's light. But I don't see enough air getting trapped under to actually rip the latch off the hood.

I have a vis invader coming in the mail and I have heard that if you don't put the stock rubber under trim U can use a small thin towel to stop air from pushing the hood up.
Or go ghetto and put a rain sheild or bug deflector on the front bumper so no air goes under the hood. hehe;-)

Definitely getting a double sided oem style hood! If I don't for some reason, VIS is gonna have some explaining to do..

WTF is a double sided oem hood? Can you put it on upside down to get a diffrent look or something? Sounds fishey to me.
|
52857, RE: People who have ordered CF Hoods from VIS........ Posted by eclipse_gs_1512, Jul-16-03 01:56 AM
i believe the double sided is for show purposes...so when you pop the hood, you have the carbon fiber on the underside lookin down on you. i guess it makes things look cleaner.

I've never heard of a "double sided" OEM hood. I have the XGT from VIS and I love it. Good choice on the hood pins, better safe than sorry.

I have seen c-wings double cf hoods at importfan. I woulda just painted the bottom of mine even if I didn't paint some of the top side. Simple solution to having the bottom look good too. Or just spray it with black krylon and clear it with high temp or something. :wary I'd have it done tho.
