52527, Polished My Header Heat Shield! Progress & Finished Pix!

Ok, alright, well I started today buy going to Home Depot and picking up me some crimped wire brushes. I got me a Coarse brush and a Fine brush, both were $3.99 each.

At 11:00 Pm I started to work....
This is what the ugly heat shield look liked:

I began by using the heavy coarse brush first, and at 12:30 this is what it looked like when I was done with the first step:

Then I began to use the fine brush and you could really start noticing a difference, look at this picture, I used the fine brush on the right side and the coarse on the left:

Well I think around 1:30 I was done and began to use sum stuff called Blue Magic and started to polish and buff it. This is what it looked like after that:

I think it turned out pretty good with me not knowing what I was doing. Its not chromed out, but its a lot better than before.
Here it is installed in my car, it makes a noticable difference.

Yea it looks like I missed some spots, I might go at it again later, but right now Im pleased with it. Here go my "GHETTO" tools that I sum how scavenged around the house:

Yea I know I'm a very illustrative person, I need pix for everything, well tell me what you guys think? All in all I was done at 2am, so about 3 hours and $9 this is what I get.

Looks great man! That's what I should have done instead of taking mine off. My header is rusty as hell no matter how many times I clean it. by-the-way what kind or strut bar is that?

Wow yours looks good. Puts mine to shame. I guess I have to get a buffer and try it. All I did with that blue magic stuff was put it on a rag and used my hand....I guess that didnt do anything. Yours looks all ONE COLOR, mine seems to be all different. Mine sucks

you need to take sand paper too it to take out all those little divits in the metal.... that is why i don;t suggest using a wire wheel... good old fashion labor works out better or makes it look more like a mirror

Just sheets of sandpaper? what kind of grit? last post some guy said something about sandpaper on a wheel like my brush, could I use that?

well get some 180 and hit it with that to get all the divits out then use 600.... sand it nice and smooth with that then hit it will 1500 and then with the polish (red sticks from sears) that will make it look like a mirror.... i'm in the middle of doing my hrc turbo and my 4g63 valve cover.... this is the best way.... i'v done other stuff like this before

shhhhhhh. U just gotta keep at it. Turbo is the junk tho! Get a cheap wally world orbital buffer and use that with the blue magic. You just have to spend some time on it. :thumbsup

I personaly like Mother's metal polish. I think you could polish the rust offa '57 Stuabaker's exhaust pipe in a junkyard with that stuff plus you don't need much or use much pressure. But I've never tried that Blue Magik so I can't compare the 2....just my .02:thumbsup
