5243, Sideskirts -- Adhesive? Clips? Epoxy? wtf!?
Posted by Ryan_Hes, Jun-09-01 11:51 AM
Okay, I have my sideskirts on my car, and they've been on for a while. I know some of you are familiar with these type of sideskirts, veilside, and was wondering how you have made the part above the 'scoop' flush with the car.

I've tried 3M adhesive sidecladding stuff, but it doesn't hold up under weather and carwashes. Any advice?

To make it stay tight, you'd have to drill through the side skirt into the body of the car at the top of it. If you want it to be molded into the car, you have to bondo it to blend it into the rear quarter panel (then there would be no line at all, and it'd look like its a part of the car). Otherwise, if you don't want to drill, your only other real choice is strong double-sided tape (but the problem is its somewhat thick, so it will make the skirt still stick out a bit at the top).

Actually, its quite expensive to have all that done. You have to pay at least 200 labor to mold those in, then you have to repaint the entire rear quarter panel of the car, which will probably cost another 200 or more...

youre looking at at least $600 to mold them in, then, when you slightly bump the skirt on the ground or on a speed bump and the bondo cracks, youre looking at another $300 touch up job. then, when you have a grille pop out by accident (if you cut in scoops like mine), or when you decide you want different side skirts, you get to pay to have the skirts cut off the car so you can replace them, then pay that $600 all over again.

hahahah well put Cyan. I guess I underestimated since I didn't know it'd cost 600 to mold em in...also its probably another 600 if you crack it (since you can't really repair it, its better to redo the whole thing, or it'll just crack again real soon).

I wish you guys had access to the shops around here. You would never be charged 600.00 to mold in sideskirts. More like half that at the most.

Those my only options? I have already decided i'm notmolding them in...-- but my dad is weary of putting hole into my car...heh. (He pays insurance and car payment) -- If I were to have a hole drilled on each side; If I ever wanted to sell the car, and return it to stock, about how much would it cost to have the hole filled and returned to normal?

Hehe you would have to weld that hole with sheet metal, and repaint the quarter panel area, which would probably be at least a few hundred depending on where you get it done. Either way, its not gonna be cheap. I would just stick with tape and live with the gap...
