51704, Sanding down then re-clearcoating stock rims?
Posted by Doug96GS, Jun-29-03 08:30 PM
My stock rims look like ass. They are all corroded and whatnot. I don't have loot to spend on new wheels, so I was wondering if I could just sand them all down and re-clearcoat them with a couple layers of spray-on clearcoat. Would they come out looking brand new? Anyone ever done it?

well, a long while ago me and my friend spray painted the stock rims on my 89 dodge colt and they actually looked great and lasted for the rest of the cars life (another 10k, LOL). i would imagine that a clear coat would hold up the same way. however....i wouldnt expect it to be as resilient as the stock coating, so you might have to re-do it every now and then. of course, it couldnt be much worse than the condition you describe you wheels to be in now. ;)
