I want to paint my headlight housing florecent orange, but how do i go about doing this? I see that Alex did it blue and it looks Great!

There's a write up around here somewhere on it but I can't find it at the moment, basically it says to put your headlights in the oven at 250-300 just long enough to heat up the adhesive so you can pull the clear outer cover off of them. Then heat 'em up again and squish 'em together and let them cool. I would have tried everything under the sun before I thought of doing that, and I'm a cook.

take off the headlights, put them in the over for a couple of minutes at 250 degrees. then pull them apart (warning, they will be hot). yes, this is what many of us have done with our 95-96 lights and 97-99 headlights. here's mine when i had my stock lights before the deer inncident(note: mine were 98 lights painted silver)


i used high temp engine enamel.

why would it not look safe to do it with 97 headlights?

well the name cyan is probably more framiliar, also, it just seems like that plastic covering for the headlights that is held on by the clips would melt in the oven. :( so is it a couple minutes u put em in for, or 5-7 minutes. I mean these are my only headlights and if this gets F'd up, i really dont feel like buying new ones. lol, also with that housing, do i have to scuff it, primer it and then paint it? Any other help would be cool. Thanks,

follow that write-up. the plastic will not melt and if you cannot pull them apart with your hands, put them in for another minute...do not pry them apart because you can crack something. i did not scuff, sand, primer, or anything. i just painted over the housing. dont worry, if you dont leave them in the oven too long you wont have any troubles. i would sugest white though instead of the florescent orange.

this process sounds interesting, but my only worry would be that the lense would start building up condensation if not properly resealed. Has this happened to anyone?

use a damn heat gun or blower dryer if you're that paranoid.
