5033, might have made a mistake today Posted by PiKappNJ, Jun-04-01 02:44 PM
I dont know if you all have looked at the mods page on 2gnt.com or not, but one of the mods says to cut a few 2" holes in your stock airbox, which will increase airflow to the filter and make your car sound better. So today I was bored and said, 'what the hell', mine as well give it a go. Well I get down to it and drill 4 - 2" holes in the sides of the airbox. When I went to drive around to test this mod I noticed a slight change and feel in the shifting of the gears, and maybe a minute difference in sound. I told my friend that I did this and he couldnt beleive it and said I had just killed my gas milage.
Has anyone else this mod? Will I really lose gas milage?

I did it a long while back and tell your friend that he's full of crap-o-la! It only increases the flow slightly. Most air boxes are designed to keep noise levels down while driving.

He's full of crap.. Ask him to explain how it will decrease your gas milage.
It does nothing more than increase flow.

He probably thinking along the "More airflow = more fuel = less gas mileage" lines, but this mod doesn't increase flow enough to alter fuel consumption.
Now adding some form of forced induction and boosting all the time is another story all together.

Nice, sounds good to me, I wasnt sure but I had a feeling ti wouldnt effect gas consumption.
Anybody try any other mods that are listed on that page, like the PVC cold air intake or centerpiece rear light illumination or removal of clutch restrictor?
sometimes im bored and like to mess around :)

Yeah your friend is full of it. I added an after market intake, short ram at the time, now cold air, and I noticed an increase in mileage. Do the clutch restrictor mod, you actually get a better "feel" to the clutch. I have a braided stainless steel line coming form RRE so I can get a better feel and a hard shift out of my clutch.
