alright whoever knows can you please help with some info. this is what i tried so far

first i put resin down and then mat then more resin then resin then resin but that didnt come out so good very hard to get the curvature of the dash

then i glued the mat to the dash and put resin and more resin and more resin but that didnt come out either cause there was a shit load of huge lumps

the second way could work but lot of sanding

just want to see how other people on this board is doing it

DO NOT USE RESIN OR MAT!!!!!! Use fiberglass reinforced filler, lay it down in thin amounts then sand smooth between each layer (scuff the part you are fiberglassing first). I usually do 2-3 layers depending on how thin it lays down. I started doing my eclipse, but i changed my mind and re-did all the panels in carbon fiber, but i also did my brothers civic, i can post pics as soon as i can get some. Also, it doesn't really look good unless you use automotive paint with clear, thats why i opted to redo mine, i did it in satin silver with no clear and it looked aweful, but my brothers is done with honda polar white and cleared with PPG diamond and it looks great. Hey man, I am not a pro.. and really have not done much work with fiberglass but I will say I have worked with it! I have tried many methods of making custom stuff. Failed on all attempts, except my recent one. I think I found the ultimate way, well alpine did. Check their site out( www.alpine1.com) check out the demo cars and install photos! You will learn alot. I have started to redo my back of the car (doors back) and so far i have been impressed.

If you're too lazy here is my two senses... start with a skeleton in wood. Then staple black speaker cloth or stretchy cloth. Then lay a layer of resin. Before that dries take a bunch of lil' fiberglass mat squares and lay them on. Resin it up again. After about 3 layers of mat(You don't have to worry about sanding this) , bust out the Body filler with fiber. It is green! It is easier to sand. Then after u got that on.. you prolly still have some lil' holes. BONDO and that is it... Prime and paint. But don't take my word for it. Check the site out! it is crazy!

so your telling me to make a completely new dash???? um im not that talented enough to make it just outta wood and speaker cloth

all i am trying to do is just put a smooth coat on the dash so it looks like glass when i paint it

he was giving you the base of glassing but u can learn from what he said get the jelly stuff (yup it green like he ^ said) lay down a thin coat and sand then maybe thin coat it again if needed be then sand and final steps fill in little holes and imperfections with bondo sand prime paint and you've got a beautiful dash, i havent done my dash yet but i have done other parts and they came out good, as soon as im done building my carputer i'll be doing my dash
