Ok, I have a couple thousand that i'm willing to dump into my car right now. I might go turbo, possibly rebuild the engine, or repaint my car. I know what color I want...but my question is about "pearl" that is added to the paint...what is it and what kind of colors can you get it in? tia!

Pearl is a coating sprayed on top of your main base color (its mixed with clear coat or other ways too) and it makes your paint change shades and shine on every angle, its nice especially when you're cruising on summertime when the sunlight hits your car. You can get it in different color like red, gold, silver, blue, purple, green, yellow, orange, even black. MiztahfooLish...'95 RS

How do you guys think black with silver pearl would look. I was thinking about red or silver, but I know optimuspeterson has red on black and I wanna be different. Also, what would I be looking at spending on 1)just a new black (stock) paint job and 2)black with pearl. Sorry, didn't mean to steal the post.

Pearl is very hard to notice on top of dark cars. For example, the Honda prelude stock black has a blue pearl in it. But to most people, they don't notice it at all. Stock 97 mitsu magenta gray pearl also has a blue pearl mixed into the paint, which you can't really notice. Pearl is mainly effective on white, silver, or other light cars (gold, yellow, lime green, etc.)

Disclaimer>>I'm far from being a paint expert! The guy who paints your car should be able to mix in as much or as little pearl as you like, giving everything from a subtle sparkle to full on bass boat disco show. I think also (but I'm not sure) that the little pearl flakes can come in different sizes. Black with a yellow or green (or hell maybe even both) pearl could be cool, but a turbo could be pretty cool too :thumbsup

Could I get black flakes in my car? I think it would just turn my car into a grey or sumthing like that.

I am curious about how a white or silver car with black pearl would look. I think it would up being kinda greyish, but what I would hope for would be a dark shimmer when the light hits it just right.

Well when I say hard to notice, I'm saying the average person that is not into paint jobs will not notice the pearl. Black cars also hide the curves of the car and details of the body work, which is why most cars with major body work go for a light color. Notice that you see the pearl where the sun and light reflects. The average person is not looking that carefully at the details of a car to notice that. Even a car that is white with a lot of blue pearl is not necessarily noticeable to the average person. I guess it's all personal preference, but I would pick a basic color that you like first for your paint job, and not count on the pearl to se you apart.

pearls and flakes are different...... most of the mitsu eclipse's have a pearl in the paint..... What gives a different effect is when you put the pearl in the clear coat when spraying the car... if you add a certain pearl to the color it can change the color completly..... Putting it in the clear gives it the shine look of another color..... to put the flakes in is a different process... the problem with some flakes is it can clog the spray gun and not look right when applied........ hope this helps clarify things help a little.........
