49092, anyone have pics of carpet dyed black..? Posted by 96eclipse2nr, May-31-03 11:56 AM
more specific, of black carpet in a car with the grey (not blue-grey) interior. i have a 96...so all my interior is the same grey..not 2 tone like the 97+ and im sick of all the grey inside. i have painted some parts silver but its still too much. i wanna do the carpet a diff color. i think black would look pretty nice. anyone have any pix? i plan on removing the carpet for a weekend and dying it. anyone know of a good dye to use and where to get it? points for whoever helps. TIA! :)

you can use RIT dye, they sell it at walmart. i painted mine black instead of dying it but it wore off in the places people put their feet alot. i even scotch gaurded it totry and stop that from happening. im not sure if it will happen with dye or not.

I don't have any pix of it, but I've done it. I have the same all grey interior and spilled some deck wash in the passenger foot well and turned it white:thumbsup I used the spray can black carpet dye (I think 3M) it looked good enough but after a few months it slowly started getting lighter and lighter.

well i did it over a 6 month period while i did my engine rebuild. so i couldn't tell you how long it took.
and its called vinyl/paint dye and i believe its by duplicolor. But its just a spray paint.
and how do you like this one??? i just had the dash back in and that was it

What can you use to dye the gray seats black? My friend used that duplicolor vinyl/fabric dye and the seat felt rough and scratchy. It also faded real fast.

there was someone on the board like a year ago that had some of the interior painted like the section between the rear seats, and the middle of the front seats inbetween the stiching. But his interior was originaly the black and tan, he just kipt going with it.

Guys, save yourself the heartache...there's a place that sells black OEM cut and formed carpet on eBay. I think it's like $100 shipped or something like that.

don't bother with that dupli color stuff, go to wal-mart and buy their flat black spray paint and it works just as well!! i've been using it for almost 2 years now and i only have to re-touch certain hight traffic areas once in a while..
heres a pic

it would look tacky and it would also look like ass i think because the vinyl will have a hard time sticking to carpet.
to the others. I used duplicolor vinyl/carpet paint/die. I redo my floor mats like every 2-3 months and the drivers seat could use a respraying but its been about a year since i've done them.
