48358, converting from fixed to power antenna Posted by MCubed45, May-24-03 01:11 PM
hey guys, for those of you that've swapped out the crappy fixed antenna for a powered one - did you hafta run wires? just wondering if there's any existing wires there even if your car didnt' come with a power antenna. it's not a big deal but i'd just like to know in advance. most power antennas just have power, ground, signal, and the remote turn on, right? thanks!

k one more question, does anyone know if it's a constant +12v source back in the trunk or if it's wired to the ignition? i want the antenna tapped into a constant +12v source b/c i'm eventually gonna be putting my stereo on remote. if i'm activating the stereo by remote the key won't be in the ignition but i still want the antenna to raise. it'll look kinda cool too. not only do you hear the stereo come on but you see the antenna raise from outside the car. :) so yea, anyone know? i'd rather not hafta run another wire if there's already a constant +12v source back there...
oh yea no one's replying to my other post so does anyone know where the wire for the trunk pin sensor is? gonna use a relay to bypass the signal from the radio to the antenna whenever the trunk is popped. that way when i get a wing i don't hafta worry 'bout accidentally jacking the antenna by opening the trunk while it's up.

the pin is somewhere within the little latch assembly in the rear...id just find it (the only power wire runnin into it) and tie it in somehow

k thanks :thumbsup i was pretty sure i saw it on the latch when i did the power trunk release... i'll just look where it goes to. most've the wires run along the driver's side quarter panel anyways (right by the antenna).
so anyone know if it's a constant +12v back there or if it's wired to the ignition?
