i know ive seen this post before, but i cant remember where, has anyone had trouble washing their engine at those self service car wash places, mine is filthy and theres something making my belts squeak when the car sits overnight so im going to clean it up and watch for leaks. what should i cover before spraying her down? thanks in advance

Uhm, you should not spray it down :)
Get a garden hose outside of your house, cover your sensor and ECU plugs, spray your engine down with Gunk engine cleaner...then gently rinse it off with a garden hose (no nossle, just freeflow no pressure)
People who pressure wash their engine usually end up with problems.

i dunno man, i use a press washer on mine. granted i dont hold down the button for the hi pressure...and i dont cover my stuff. no problems what so ever. but definately get some engine degreaser. i use the super tech foaming stuff from wal mart... 78 cents for a big ass can of it..works wonders

I hose my down on full pressure and never had a problem, once last summer, during the winter and last week. Covered all electrical shit, sprayed it with engine bright then hosed it down, started right up after and ran perfect
