i'm about to redo my headliner and i needed to know how much material our cars require? just some general dimensions would help. thanks! oh yea any suggestions on what types of material look good too. i'm gonna redo it in black and repaint the trim pieces silver (dome light, 'oh shit' handle, visor mirrors etc.) oh and are the visors hard to do? i think someone said before the material just gets fold over and kinda stuff into the edge? or somethin like that...

get a TALL can of 3M adhesive spray in the RED cap at any home depot and spray that shit all over the entire headliner to where it looks like green snot all over it. use the whole can. let it sit for 3-5 min.

now, get a BED SHEET from any kmart or walmart and whatnot and cut that up to size of your headliner and smooth everything on from the inside outwards and fold over the edges lightly. done

i did mine a year and a half ago and it still looks the same, no wrinkles or sags at all. im about to redo mine cuz i found this badass print for a boy's twin bed sheet set thats got blak with red and white jagged stuff all over it, looks tight

ok cool thanks! i was reading your posts 'bout that in the archives. how come your names like kaptain_myke (guest) or somethin on those posts though? just wonderin.. oh yea my stock headliner's actually really jacked and pretty much isn't attached anywhere but the sides. i know you've been suggesting getting bed sheets an stuff, but would it be better if i went w/ actual headliner material (the ones w/ the 1/4" foam backing) b/c i'm gonna hafta take off my stock one completely (what's left of it). also anyone know if i hafta scrape off the bits of foam left from the original material? it looks like it'd make it difficult for the new material to bond to the headliner...

if your stock headliner is in bad shape, then just rip one out of a junkyard eclipse or purchase a new one and stick your material to that the same way i stated above. sounds like that's your best bet

sorry to try stealing post... but past owner added aftermarket cheap sunroof to my eclipse. I took it out because it leaked and was impossible to find company and new seal, but now theres a big hole in the headliner... How do I fix that since I cant spray that stuff where the big hole is and it well sage there.

how did you guys replace the roof then if there is a missing aftermarket sunroof now? did you sheetmetal it or what?

You could either get a new one or you could get a sheet of card board, glue it on from the rear, then get some thin foam and cut it to fit the hole and glue that to the front (to level out your headliner) then recover it...that would work.

Last week I was at Jo-Ann Fabrics and noticed they carried headliner material. I'll be re-doing my headliner this summer at some point.

actually the headliner itself isn't too bad.. it's just the material isnt' attached at all anymore. so there's the residual foam backing stuck all over the shell. i guess i just wanna know whether i should get real headliner material (being that the foam backing from the stock material pretty much deteriorated) or if i can get away w/ some sheets or something? is that foam backing important at all? the headliner shell still has it's shape and everything, the material just isn't attached at all. i'm guessing i need to scrape off the bits of foam backing that's left b/c i don't think whatever i glue on will stick to it...

go to a junkyard or replace it. i cannot make my gurantee that it will last on that surface u mention of. i CAN however guantee it will last if u do it how I did only if you have a reliable somewhat stock usable headliner as a "template"

haha that's not gonna work... no junkyards w/ eclipses here. nice rock i live on. satan here is particularly bad too... they want to charge me a diagnostic fee when i tell them exactly what's wrong and why the CEL light is coming on and how it has to do with a TSB...

so anyone tried repairing their headliner? it looks like it's jsut the cardboardish surface underneath the bits of foam left from the backing of the material... anyone know if it'll hold with the regular spray?

oh yea anyone know if that yahoo store places headliner material is smooth? i kinda want something sorta smooth (like bed sheets) :P i know a couple people pointed it out in some've the old threads. just wonderin if anyone ordered from them... it looks kinda textured :(

I just reecently ordered samples of all of their black vinyls hopeing to find a match for our interior vinyl texture. None matched. The samples were about 3" x 6" and they are $.50 each plus S&H. But like I said before my local Jo-Ann Fabric carries hadliner material which is the cloth with the foam backing.

k well i ended up pickiing up some headliner material down here... $15/ yard... fawk! haha but that yahoo store was gonna charge about $25 shipping to hawaii anyways so it came out the same and i didn't have to wait. i clean off the old crap pretty good. just pulled off the sagging material and used a brush to scrape off the bits of foam backing left behind. carboard still looks good. i'm actually gluing it on tonite as we speak. looks pretty nice though. i like black so much better... if only someone could figure out how to do the visors... :wary

haha that 3m shit is sticky... so now my headliner's drying... came out pretty good. looks so muc hbetter black. idk what happen in this one tiny spot but it's like there's no foam so it dips in. it's really small but it bugs me. idk i think later i might drill a tiny hole in the backing and push in some extra padding or something. i'm just anal like that. :P

this looks like it's gonna be a pain to trim all the holes an crap..
