I wanted to know if you could paint a carbon fiber hood. If so does it last, or is it just gonna peel off? I really like the invader hood but i kinda want it to match my car. So if ya could help me that would be great!

Yeah you can paint em. Just take it to a body shop. It should last just as long as anything else painted.

I went through my mags because I did remember this article that I once seen and I found it in the june 2002 import racer mag. So I scanned the article for you. (that should be worth somthing) Anyways, if I had a CF hood this is what I would do... The process well tint the CF to match your car but you still get the CF look. (images arent the best quality... if you want better I can scan and get them bigger if you want better look.)

You can... but why would u want to?? U get a cf hood for the fact that its CF, if u dun want cf get a fiberglass one.

most people paint a cf hood SOME. They want the cf look, but not entirely. That's where I was. I thought with the color scheme, I needed to paint some to help blend it to the body more. I guess. I have seen people paint cf for weight reduction. That seems pointless. CF has a better finish than fiberglass. More durable too. That's why people probably get it instead. I like my hood. Matches up with the car, but still gives the cf look. :thumbsup

how do you figure cf has a better finish than glass? if you paint both of them, they have the same finish.... also cf is more durable, depending on who makes the hood... mots fiberglass hoods are more durable than most cf hoods. thats because most cf hoods are made cheaply and poorly. not to mention a glass hood is lighter than a cf hood.

painting a carbon fiber hood is like buying a honda. you make people just keep wondering why:nono

get carbon fiber with a colored kevlar in it. makes it match a little better that way and it looks better than straight carbon

what do u mean cf is smoother?? u mean the clear coat on a cf hood is smoother than an um prepped glass hood? well see.. thats because the cf hood is prepped and cleared, and the glass one isn't. cf doesn't paint any easier or better than glass..... glass doesn't paint better than cf, they are the same, and if ur having a shop paint it, they are either gonna have to spend time prepping if its glass, or like ur hood, they would have to put hella coats on it so that the cf doesn't show through. so they both have downfalls.... but on the other hand... cf is more expensive than glass. In all honesty, the reason people get cf over glass is simply so that they can say look at me... I HAVE CF!!!

i had my fiber images hood painted before it was installed....It looked as good as the regular hood......But you need to take it to a proffessional who has experience because they arent painted the exact same way...

yeah they have to wet sand the area down that's going to be painted... shoot it with paint (couple of coats) then add clear to the top of it....

fiberglass is lighter and it gives alot more when you push on it or get hit, fiberglass will flex a litle and carbon fiber will not. When i shipped my predator hod it tipped the scale at 22lbs. stock is around 50 i suspect

Um, I hate to be the ass of the group, but why not buy a CF hood and paint it. Esp one like mine, the Invader one. I personally would paint the whole thing because it would look better. But thats just me. I have to paint mine. It was in an accident and has been cracked.
